The JBL STAGE102 is a 10-inch passive car audio subwoofer designed to add dedicated low-frequency output to an aftermarket sound system. The STAGE102 can be used in sealed or vented enclosures, giving installers flexibility when balancing cargo-space needs and bass preferences. JBL specifies a 1.23-cubic-foot sealed enclosure for a compact, controlled setup. Its recommended vented alignment uses a 1.0-cubic-foot enclosure tuned to 30Hz for greater efficiency in the upper-bass region.

As a component subwoofer, the STAGE102 is not a self-powered enclosure and requires an external amplifier, speaker wire, and a suitable enclosure. It can serve as the low-frequency foundation of a first aftermarket audio system or as a straightforward replacement for an existing 10-inch subwoofer. A foam mounting gasket is included to help create a sealed installation between the driver frame and enclosure.

Design & Installation

The STAGE102 uses a polypropylene cone and rubber surround in a 10-inch frame with a 1.5-inch voice coil. Its outer diameter is 10 inches, while its mounting depth is 4-7/16 inches. JBL includes a foam gasket, two two-color brand stickers, and an owner’s manual; a protective grille is not included.

Mount the subwoofer from the outside of a properly built enclosure and use the included gasket to help make the frame-to-box connection airtight. The terminals accept bare or tinned wire, with JBL recommending 14 AWG to 8 AWG speaker wire depending on run length; heavier wire is preferred for runs over 6 feet. Use an amplifier compatible with a 4-ohm load and set the system crossover and gain carefully for the enclosure and vehicle.
