The Hertz MPBX 250 S2 is a loaded 10-inch passive subwoofer enclosure designed for vehicle systems that need meaningful bass output without requiring a large box. Its sealed, ultra-shallow enclosure format helps it fit where conventional subwoofer enclosures may be impractical. It is built around the 2-ohm MPS 250 S2 shallow subwoofer platform.

This enclosure is intended for listeners building a compact amplified subwoofer system in cars, trucks, and other vehicles with limited installation height. With 500 watts continuous power handling and a 2-ohm nominal impedance, it should be paired with an amplifier that is stable at 2 ohms and appropriately power-matched. Its specified frequency response is 25 to 400 Hz.

The MPBX 250 S2 uses a sealed cabinet to provide a controlled bass foundation in a compact footprint. Hertz specifies a polypropylene cone, a single 38 mm voice coil, and a high-density flux ferrite magnet in the loaded subwoofer. The shallow enclosure measures 160 mm deep externally, helping accommodate under-seat and other low-clearance applications.

Its enclosure construction uses 15 mm wood panels, panel-to-panel internal bracing, solid corners, and internal sound-absorbing material. These elements are designed to limit cabinet resonances while supporting the enclosed driver. Rounded cabinet corners also make placement easier in tighter vehicle spaces.

Hertz 2S² (2 Sides/2 Sounds) design supports either up-firing or down-firing placement. The supplied leveling feet use hook-and-loop inserts for down-firing installation, while the SSP Sub Smart Plug system provides a removable Plug-&-Play terminal block alongside traditional push terminals. A screw-less mesh grille is included to help protect the driver.

Design & Installation

The MPBX 250 S2 combines a polypropylene-cone subwoofer with a high-density flux ferrite magnet in a rigid sealed box. Its cabinet includes 15 mm wood construction, internal sound-absorbing material, panel-to-panel bracing, solid corners, and rounded exterior corners. The included mesh grille has an adjustable logo position for installation orientation.

Measure the available space before installation using the 531 x 160 x 361 mm overall dimensions. For down-firing use, install the supplied leveling feet with their hook-and-loop inserts on a suitable carpeted surface; up-firing can be used when that placement better suits the system. Connect the enclosure to a compatible 2-ohm-stable subwoofer amplifier using either the SSP Plug-&-Play terminal block or the conventional push terminals, and secure the enclosure so it cannot move while driving.
