Cerwin-Vega V12DV2 12" Dual 2-Ohm Subwoofer

The Cerwin-Vega V12DV2 is a 12-inch VEGA Series car audio subwoofer designed for systems that need substantial low-frequency output. Its dual 2-ohm voice-coil configuration gives installers useful flexibility when matching the subwoofer to a compatible amplifier. It is a passive subwoofer, so it requires an external amplifier and enclosure for operation.

This model is intended for enthusiasts upgrading a factory-based system or building a dedicated bass section in a custom car audio installation. With 1,200 watts RMS and 3,600 watts maximum power handling, it is suited to amplifier systems selected around its continuous power rating. The 87 dB sensitivity and 36 Hz resonant frequency provide useful reference points for enclosure and system planning.

The V12DV2 uses a hybrid carbon-fiber and polypropylene cone with a stitch-reinforced Santoprene surround. This construction is intended to support cone rigidity while allowing the suspension to move through its rated 9 mm Xmax. A vented pole piece helps manage heat during extended use.

A ferrite motor structure, double-stacked magnet assembly, and 3-inch high-temperature copper voice coil form the core of the woofer’s motor system. The cast aluminum Vega basket supports the moving assembly, while the horizontal spring-loaded terminal is designed to simplify speaker-wire connections. An integrated impedance selector is also provided as part of the terminal arrangement.

For a system build, the V12DV2 can be used in either a sealed or ported enclosure. Published optimum enclosure volumes are 1.25 cubic feet sealed and 1.75 cubic feet ported. Its dual 2-ohm coils can be wired for a 1-ohm parallel load or a 4-ohm series load, provided the amplifier is rated for the selected load.

The V12DV2 combines a black carbon-fiber/polypropylene diaphragm, Santoprene rubber surround, cast aluminum basket, and ferrite magnet motor. Its 3-inch copper voice coil and double-stacked magnet structure are engineered for high-power car audio applications. The deep basket profile requires adequate enclosure clearance before installation.

Plan for a 11.02-inch cutout and 6.57-inch mounting depth, with an overall diameter of 12.66 inches and overall height of 7.36 inches. Use an enclosure designed for the subwoofer and match the amplifier to the final 1-ohm or 4-ohm load created by the dual coils. Both voice coils should be connected to the amplification source, and the amplifier must be rated for the selected impedance.
