The BOSS MD-200 is a compact multi-modulation effects pedal for guitar and bass rigs. It brings a broad collection of chorus, phaser, flanger, tremolo, rotary, wah, and specialty modulation sounds into one pedalboard-friendly unit. It is designed for players who want multiple modulation voices without needing a separate pedal for each effect type.

Twelve selectable modes cover both conventional and more experimental modulation textures. Dedicated Rate, Depth, and Effect Level controls make core adjustments direct, while three mode-dependent parameter knobs provide deeper shaping for the selected effect. This layout supports quick changes during practice, rehearsal, recording, or performance.

The MD-200 processes audio at a 96 kHz sampling frequency with 32-bit AD/DA conversion and 32-bit floating-point internal processing. Its buffered bypass and specified input and output levels help it integrate with typical instrument-level pedal chains. A global setting is available to optimize the flanger, phaser, and auto wah effects for guitar or bass use.

An assignable insert loop allows an external pedal to be placed before or after the modulation effect. This is useful for experimenting with the order of drive and modulation effects, such as placing a phaser before distortion in one setup and chorus after it in another. Insert-loop placement can be stored with a memory setup.

The pedal provides 127 user memories plus a Manual setting, for 128 total available setups. Its onboard footswitches can handle bypass, memory scrolling, and tap-tempo functions, while external footswitch, expression-pedal, and MIDI connections expand control options. The MD-200 can run from the included three AA alkaline batteries or an optional BOSS PSA-S series AC adaptor.

Key Features

  • 12 Modulation Modes: Access chorus, flanger, phaser, tremolo, rotary, auto wah, slicer, and other modulation effects from one pedal.
  • 32-Bit Audio Processing: Uses 32-bit AD/DA conversion, 32-bit floating-point processing, and 96 kHz sampling.
  • 127 User Memories: Store and recall up to 127 user setups alongside the real-time Manual setting.
  • Insert Loop: Position a compatible external pedal before or after the selected modulation effect.
  • Flexible External Control: Supports compatible footswitches, expression pedals, and MIDI equipment for expanded operation.
  • Guitar/Bass Optimization: A global setting tailors flanger, phaser, and auto wah operation for guitar or bass.

Design & Installation

The MD-200 uses a compact pedal format with two onboard footswitches, seven rotary controls, dedicated Memory and Tap Division buttons, and a three-character LED display. Its panel design keeps primary modulation controls accessible without requiring menu navigation for routine adjustments. Four included rubber feet can be fitted for stable placement and surface protection.

For a mono setup, connect an instrument or preceding effect to INPUT A/MONO and route OUTPUT A/MONO to the next pedal or amplifier input. INPUT B and OUTPUT B are provided for dual-channel routing, while the CTL 1, 2/EXP jack accepts compatible external control devices and the mini TRS MIDI ports support MIDI integration. Use the insert loop when an external effect needs selectable placement before or after the MD-200 modulation processing.
