BOSS VE-8 Acoustic Guitar and Vocal Effects Processor

The BOSS VE-8 is a compact floor processor for singers who accompany themselves on acoustic guitar. It combines microphone and guitar preamps, effects, harmony generation, and phrase looping in one performance-focused unit. It is designed to reduce the need for separate vocal and acoustic-guitar processing devices.

Dedicated vocal and guitar signal paths let a performer shape both sources independently. The vocal section provides enhancement, pitch correction, harmony and character effects, reverb, three-band EQ, and low cut. The guitar section adds Acoustic Resonance processing, modulation and delay effects, reverb, three-band EQ, low cut, a notch filter, and phase control.

The VE-8 is suited to solo performers, singer-songwriters, rehearsal spaces, and small-to-medium live setups where vocal and acoustic-guitar control are needed from the floor. Its harmony function can follow chords detected from the guitar input or work from manually selected key settings. A vocal doubling option and several vocal-effect types provide additional arrangement choices without adding extra performers.

For acoustic-electric guitars, the Acoustic Resonance feature is intended to help refine the amplified character of the instrument. The onboard notch filter and phase control provide tools for addressing feedback in live environments. Separate vocal and guitar EQ sections also allow the performer to adapt each source to the room and sound system.

An 80-second phrase looper can capture vocal, guitar, or combined performances for layered arrangements. Fifty memory locations store preferred settings for quick recall, while the USB Computer port supports direct computer recording use. Stereo XLR outputs and 1/4-inch line outputs allow the VE-8 to connect with PA systems, monitors, and acoustic amplifiers.

Design & Installation

The VE-8 uses a compact floor-based layout with foot-operated controls, a two-digit seven-segment LED display, and dedicated connections for microphone, guitar, playback, outputs, USB, and external footswitch control. BOSS does not publish a chassis-material specification. Its 217 x 161 x 65 mm footprint is intended for placement on the floor, a pedalboard, or another stable performance surface.

Connect a microphone to the balanced XLR MIC IN and an acoustic-electric guitar to the 1/4-inch GUITAR IN jack. Send audio to a PA through the XLR outputs or to monitors and an acoustic amplifier through the 1/4-inch line outputs; use the AUX IN for playback devices and the USB Computer port for computer recording. The included AC adaptor powers the unit, while six AA alkaline batteries provide an alternative portable-power option; FS-5U, FS-6, and FS-7 footswitches are optional for added control.
