BOSS PX-1 Plugout FX Multi-Effects Pedal

The BOSS PX-1 Plugout FX is a compact guitar effects pedal designed to place a selection of classic BOSS effect recreations in one configurable stompbox. It helps players reduce pedalboard space while retaining a familiar pedal-style control approach. The unit operates one selected effect at a time, allowing it to function as a focused drive, modulation, filter, pitch, or delay pedal within a larger rig.

The PX-1 is intended for guitarists and bassists who want to explore historic BOSS effect models without dedicating separate space to each individual pedal. It includes 16 supplied effect models, ranging from OD-1 overdrive and DS-1 distortion to CE-2 chorus, OC-2 octave, and DD-2 delay. Additional compatible models can be loaded through the BOSS Effect Loader app using separately purchased Model Passes.

Its processing is built around dedicated DSP operation for one effect at a time, with model-specific controls shown on the onboard graphic display. Three parameter knobs provide direct adjustment, while the pedal switch controls bypass and assigned functions. Buffered bypass supports integration into conventional pedalboard signal chains.

Stereo inputs and outputs allow the PX-1 to work in mono or stereo guitar systems, including dual-amp and stereo-monitor setups. Tap tempo and TRS MIDI clock input support synchronized timing for compatible time-based effects. An external control jack accepts compatible footswitches or an expression pedal for parameter control, momentary operation, or effect swapping.

The PX-1 can run from its included AC adaptor or from USB bus power, making it suitable for pedalboard, desktop, and computer-connected use. Bluetooth Low Energy MIDI and USB-C provide access to the BOSS Effect Loader app, software updates, and effect loading. It is a practical upgrade path for players who want one compact platform that can be reconfigured as their musical needs change.

Design & Installation

The PX-1 uses a compact BOSS pedal-format enclosure with three rotary controls, a pedal switch, CHECK indicator, and 128 x 48-dot graphic LCD. BOSS does not publish a housing-material specification. Its 73 mm width, 125 mm depth, and 56 mm height make it suitable for many pedalboard layouts.

Connect an instrument or existing effect chain to INPUT A (MONO) for a mono setup, or use both input and output channels for stereo operation. Connect OUTPUT A (MONO) to an amp or monitor system for mono use, and add OUTPUT B for stereo routing. Power the pedal with the supplied AC adaptor or a suitable USB-C power source, then use the BOSS Effect Loader app over Bluetooth or USB-C when loading compatible effect models.
