The BOSS DD-500 is a programmable digital delay stompbox designed for players who need a wide range of echo sounds in one pedalboard-ready unit. It combines classic-style delay textures with modern ambient, patterned, pitch-based, and experimental effects. Extensive patch storage and direct controls help replace multiple dedicated delay pedals while keeping frequently used sounds accessible.
This pedal is suited to guitarists, bassists, and performers building a flexible mono or stereo effects setup. Its two input and two output connections support routing for stereo rigs, while MIDI expands integration with switching systems and other MIDI-capable gear. The onboard phrase looper also adds a practical tool for practicing, creating layered parts, or developing ideas.
The DD-500 delivers clean digital repeats, analog-inspired warmth, tape-style echoes, reverse effects, shimmer textures, and more through 12 delay modes. Each mode offers deep parameter editing, including a semi-parametric four-band EQ, modulation, ducking, and other sound-shaping options. This makes it useful for straightforward rhythmic repeats as well as detailed, evolving delay patches.
Its audio engine uses 32-bit AD/DA conversion, 32-bit floating-point processing, and a 96 kHz sampling frequency. The pedal also provides analog pass-through for the direct guitar signal. Buffered-bypass and relay-based true-bypass operation are selectable, allowing the setup to be matched to the rest of a signal chain.
A backlit graphic LCD provides visual feedback for patch selection, delay time, editing, and system settings. Three footswitches can be assigned for functions such as patch access, tap tempo, control changes, and layered delay operation. USB and MIDI connectivity support computer-based editing, patch backup, and advanced external control.

Design & Installation
The DD-500 uses a compact stompbox-style format with six dedicated control knobs, three footswitches, and an integrated 128 x 64-dot backlit graphic LCD. Its clearly organized top-panel controls provide immediate access to core delay settings while the display supports deeper editing. The unit measures 170 mm wide, 138 mm deep, and 62 mm high, including its pedalboard-oriented control layout.
Connect an instrument or effects send to INPUT A/MONO for a mono rig, or use INPUT A/MONO and B with the matching A/MONO and B outputs for stereo operation. Power the pedal with four AA alkaline batteries or a separately sold BOSS PSA-series AC adapter; it draws 200 mA. For expanded control, connect compatible BOSS footswitches or an expression pedal to the CTL 1,2/EXP jack, and use USB-MIDI or standard MIDI ports for computer editing and system integration.
