The BOSS DM-101 Delay Machine is an analog delay effects pedal for guitar, bass, keyboards, and other instrument-level signal chains. It gives players access to vintage-style repeats while adding modern preset storage, stereo routing, MIDI control, and tap-tempo operation. This is a music effects processor, not a car-audio head unit or vehicle amplifier.

The DM-101 is designed for musicians who want the character of bucket-brigade delay without giving up flexible control options. Its analog audio path produces repeats with natural saturation and progressively softened texture. The pedal can cover short slapback sounds, rhythmic echoes, spacious stereo effects, and more experimental repeating patterns.

At the core of the DM-101 are eight internal 2048-stage BBDs controlled by a precision CPU. The CPU manages the delay architecture and mode behavior while the audio signal remains fully analog. This approach supports a broad range of delay sounds while retaining the response associated with analog BBD circuitry.

Twelve delay modes provide both mono and stereo effects, including Classic, Vintage, Modern, Multi-Head, Ambience, and Pattern options. Dedicated modulation controls make it possible to add movement to the repeats, while the Variation control changes mode-specific parameters. Tap tempo and selectable note divisions help synchronize delays with a song or performance.

The DM-101 fits well on an advanced pedalboard, in a stereo amplifier rig, or in a wet/dry or parallel effects setup. Four onboard memories provide quick access from the pedal, and MIDI expands recall to 127 user memories. External footswitch and expression-pedal support add hands-free control options for stage or studio use.

Key Features

  • Fully Analog BBD Audio Path: Eight bucket-brigade devices create analog delay repeats with CPU-managed control.
  • Twelve Delay Modes: Mono and stereo modes cover traditional echoes, modulation, multi-head patterns, and ambient textures.
  • Stereo Output Routing: Output A/MONO and Output B support flexible stereo, wet/dry, and wet-only configurations.
  • Memory Recall: Four onboard memories and MIDI access to 127 user memories simplify repeatable setups.
  • Tap Tempo Control: Set delay speed by foot and choose rhythmic note-division behavior for supported modes.
  • External Control Support: Connect compatible footswitches, an expression pedal, or MIDI equipment for expanded operation.

Design & Installation

The DM-101 uses BOSS's durable pedal-format enclosure with a control panel that places its mode selector, modulation controls, delay controls, memory controls, and footswitches within easy reach. Its black chassis and silver control surface reference classic BOSS delay styling. Buffered bypass is used for effect switching, and four included rubber feet can be fitted for stable placement.

Connect an instrument or compatible effects-chain output to the 1/4-inch INPUT jack, then route OUTPUT A/MONO to a mono destination or use both output jacks for stereo operation. The included AC adaptor powers the pedal; it is not specified for battery operation. For extended control, use the CTL 1, 2/EXP jack with compatible footswitches or an expression pedal, and use the mini TRS MIDI IN and OUT jacks with appropriate MIDI/TRS cables.
