BOSS GX-1 Guitar Effects Processor

The BOSS GX-1 is a compact guitar amp and effects processor for practice, recording, and performance. It puts amp modeling, effects processing, preset storage, and foot control into one portable floor unit. It is designed for guitarists who want a streamlined way to build and recall complete sounds without assembling a large pedalboard.

The GX-1 provides 23 amplifier types and 146 effects types, covering core tone-shaping tools from amp and cabinet processing to modulation, delay, reverb, dynamics, and drive effects. Eight effect blocks can run simultaneously, alongside a volume pedal and noise suppression. This allows players to create layered signal chains for different songs and playing styles.

BOSS AIRD technology is used for the amplifier processing, aiming to reproduce the response and interaction associated with guitar amp systems. The internal audio platform uses 24-bit AD conversion with the AF method, 32-bit DA conversion, 32-bit floating-point processing, and a 48 kHz sampling frequency. These specifications support detailed sound shaping for direct monitoring, recording, and performance setups.

A color graphic LCD, dedicated effect-category buttons, three knobs, and Gear Suite tools make the GX-1 practical for quick editing. There are 99 preset memories and 99 user memories, giving players space to store ready-to-use sounds and their own configurations. The onboard switches and expression pedal with toe switch are freely assignable for hands-on control while playing.

The GX-1 can play audio from a mobile device through onboard Bluetooth and supports USB-C connectivity for use with compatible computers and mobile devices. BOSS Tone Studio support provides additional editing and practice tools on macOS, Windows, iOS, and Android. With battery, AC adaptor, and USB bus-power options, the unit can be used as a compact centerpiece for home practice, travel rigs, and direct-recording setups.

Design & Installation

The GX-1 uses a compact, lightweight floor-processor layout with an integrated expression pedal, footswitches, color LCD, rotary controls, and dedicated effect-category buttons. BOSS does not specify the enclosure material in its published specifications. Its 307 mm-wide format is designed to fit easily into a guitar-case or bag pocket while keeping essential performance controls accessible.

Connect a guitar to the 1/4-inch INPUT jack, then route the left/mono and right outputs to an appropriate monitoring, recording, or performance destination. A miniature PHONES jack supports private monitoring, while the CTL2,3/EXP2 jack accepts up to two external footswitches or one expression pedal. Power the GX-1 with four AA alkaline batteries, an optional BOSS PSA-S series AC adaptor, or compatible USB bus power.
