Audison AVK 6A P II 6.5" 2-Way Active Speaker Kit

The Audison AVK 6A P II is a 6.5-inch two-way active component speaker kit built around separate AV 6.5 P II mid-bass drivers and AV 1.1 II tweeters. It is intended for vehicle audio systems using an active crossover, DSP, or separate amplifier channels rather than an included passive crossover network. This configuration gives an installer control over crossover frequency, level, time alignment, and equalization.

The AV 6.5 P II woofer is rated for 150 watts continuous power handling and uses a 40 mm CCAW voice coil. Its 45-7,500 Hz frequency response, pressed paper cone, ferrite motor, and 4-ohm nominal impedance support use as the mid-bass foundation of an active front stage. The woofer is designed to cover bass and midrange duties before handing off to the separate tweeter.

The AV 1.1 II tweeter uses a 28 mm Tetolon fiber dome and has a stated frequency response of 1,000-40,000 Hz. It is Hi-Res Audio compliant under the stated JAS/IEC 60268-5 test condition. Its extended upper-frequency range and separate mounting hardware help accommodate typical off-axis vehicle placements.

Because this is the active version of the AVK 6 P II system, no passive crossovers are included. Audison recommends a 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley high-pass filter as low as 1,800 Hz for the AV 1.1 II when paired in a two-way system with a 6.5-inch woofer. The AV 6.5 P II can be high-pass filtered as low as 70 Hz with the same filter alignment.

The kit is suited to enthusiasts and installers assembling a DSP-based front-stage upgrade with independent woofer and tweeter channels. OEM-style two-pin connectors and standard terminals provide wiring flexibility, while supplied pigtail wiring supports service-friendly disconnection. Optional Audison AVG 6.5 B II or AVG 6.5 S II grilles are available separately for the woofers.

Design & Installation

The AV 6.5 P II combines a die-cast aluminum basket, magnet cover, high-density-flux ferrite magnet, pressed paper cone, and butyl rubber surround. Its motor incorporates an aluminum shorting ring, while the 28 mm AV 1.1 II tweeter uses a Tetolon fiber dome and neodymium magnet. The woofer has a 165 mm overall diameter, a 140.8 mm Dimension B measurement, and a 74.2 mm Dimension C measurement; installation clearance should be verified against the vehicle and the supplied dimensional drawing.

This kit needs an active crossover solution such as a DSP and separate amplified channels for the tweeters and woofers, because passive crossovers are not supplied. Audison specifies 24 dB/octave Linkwitz-Riley filtering, with the tweeter high-passed from 1,800 Hz in a two-way alignment and the woofer high-passed from 70 Hz.
