The RØDE NT55MP is a matched pair of small-diaphragm condenser microphones for stereo recording, detailed instrument capture, and applications where a compact microphone placement is useful. Each microphone is supplied with a cardioid capsule installed and an interchangeable omnidirectional capsule for a different pickup pattern. The matched-pair configuration is intended for users building stereo microphone setups for music, ambience, broadcast, and location work.

Its 1/2-inch gold-sputtered true condenser capsule is designed to provide a smooth, balanced recording character across a 20Hz to 20kHz frequency range. The NT55's low 15dBA equivalent noise level supports recording quieter sources with less microphone self-noise. A 100-ohm balanced XLR output lets it integrate with professional microphone preamps, mixers, recorders, and interfaces.

The NT55MP provides practical control for sources with different volume levels and low-frequency conditions. Its three-position pad offers 0dB, -10dB, and -20dB settings, while the high-pass filter can be set flat, at 75Hz, or at 150Hz. These controls help accommodate louder instruments and reduce unwanted low-frequency energy before the signal reaches the preamp.

Interchangeable NT45-C cardioid and NT45-O omnidirectional capsules make the pair adaptable to different recording techniques. Cardioid operation is useful when greater focus on the intended source is needed, while the omni capsules offer an alternate pickup option. The microphones use JFET impedance converters with bipolar output buffers and require P48 phantom power.

As part of a recording system, the NT55MP connects to two balanced XLR microphone inputs with phantom power available on both channels. It is suited to stereo techniques, paired spot-miking, drum overhead use, acoustic instruments, dialogue, and environmental recording. The included clips, windscreens, omni capsules, and zip pouch provide the essential accessories for storage and deployment.

Design & Installation

Each NT55 uses a 1/2-inch externally biased, gold-sputtered condenser capsule and a heavy-duty satin nickel-plated body. The compact microphone body measures 145 x 20 x 20mm and weighs 100g. Its end-address design, switchable pad, and high-pass filter place useful controls directly on the microphone body.

Connect each microphone to a balanced XLR input on a mixer, audio interface, recorder, or microphone preamp that provides P48 phantom power. Use the supplied RM5 clips to mount the microphones on compatible stands or booms, then select the cardioid or omnidirectional capsule before powering the microphones. Disconnect the XLR cable before changing capsules, and use the included windscreens and zip pouch for protection during transport and storage.
