RØDE NT4 X/Y Stereo Condenser Microphone
$529.00
Mogami GOLD 3.5 2 XLRF 20 Dual-XLRF to 3.5mm Cable
$169.95
The RØDE NT4 is a stereo condenser microphone built for capturing a coherent left-right image without assembling a separate matched microphone pair. Its fixed X/Y capsule arrangement gives creators a practical way to record stereo sources with consistent placement and channel alignment. It is suited to studio work, field recording, camera-based recording, and portable-recorder setups.
Two closely matched 1/2-inch cardioid condenser capsules are positioned in a 90-degree X/Y configuration. This arrangement captures stereo width while retaining a focused forward pickup pattern that helps reduce sound arriving from behind the microphone. It is useful for drum overheads, percussion, ensembles, choir vocals, ambience, sound design, and foley.
The NT4 covers a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range and handles sound-pressure levels up to 143 dB SPL. Its 16 dBA equivalent noise level, 128 dB-plus dynamic range, and cardioid capsules support detailed recording across quiet and high-level sources. The microphone uses a JFET impedance converter with a bipolar output buffer.
For flexible operation, the NT4 runs from P48 phantom power or a 9V battery. This lets it connect to mixers and audio interfaces with phantom power, while also supporting portable recorders and compatible cameras when battery operation is needed. A dual-XLR cable and a 3.5mm mini-jack cable are included for these different connection approaches.
The NT4 provides a fixed stereo array in one microphone body, simplifying setup compared with separate microphones, a stereo bar, and extra alignment work. It can be mounted with the included RM3 mic clip and used with the included WS4 windshield when appropriate. Its supplied padded zip pouch helps keep the microphone and accessories together between sessions.
Key Features
- Fixed 90-Degree X/Y Array: Creates stereo capture from a single microphone body.
- Matched 1/2-Inch Capsules: Supports consistent left and right channel response.
- Cardioid Pickup: Focuses on sound in front of the microphone.
- Dual Power Options: Operates from P48 phantom power or a 9V battery.
- Included Stereo Cables: Connects to mixers, recorders, and compatible cameras.
- High SPL Handling: Accommodates loud sources up to 143 dB SPL.
Design & Installation
The NT4 uses a pressure-gradient condenser design with dual externally biased capsules, gold-sputtered diaphragms, surface-mount circuitry, and a satin-nickel finish. Its end-address body measures 231 mm long and 41 mm in diameter, with a net weight of 480 g. The microphone incorporates an on/off switch and a red battery-status LED for battery-powered operation.
Mount the NT4 securely to a stable microphone stand using the included RM3 clip, then rotate the microphone to aim the fixed X/Y capsule pair toward the sound source. Use the included dual-XLR cable for two mixer or recorder channels, panned left and right, or use the included 3.5mm cable with a compatible recorder or camera input. Power the microphone with P48 phantom power or fit a 9V PP3 battery when phantom power is unavailable.
