The Rockford Fosgate M2-8HB is a pair of 8-inch, 2-way marine speakers built for boats and powersports vehicles that need high-output sound in exposed environments. Its integrated horn tweeters are designed to provide clear high-frequency detail alongside substantial full-range output. The M2-8HB is the black-grille version of this speaker model.

With 300 watts RMS and 1,200 watts peak power handling, these 4-ohm speakers are suited to amplified marine audio systems. A 94 dB sensitivity rating helps them produce strong output with compatible power. Their 20 Hz to 25 kHz rated frequency response supports broad musical playback from bass presence through high-frequency detail.

The speaker uses an integrated 1-inch high-efficiency horn tweeter and a concealed crossover network. The 12 dB-per-octave crossover is built into the assembly, reducing the need for an external passive crossover for the speaker system. This construction helps simplify installation while keeping the crossover protected.

Color Optix RGB lighting is integrated for installations that also prioritize visual customization. The speakers connect through integrated Deutsch and Amphenol receptacles and work with the separately sold Rockford Fosgate PMX-RGB controller and RF Connect app. Lighting can also be hardwired according to the manufacturer wiring guidance.

For marine and off-road use, the M2-8HB uses Rockford Fosgate's Element Ready construction and carries an IP67 certification. UV-resistant, salt-fog-resistant, and corrosion-conscious materials are used throughout the speaker design. The package includes black sport grilles and stainless-steel grille inserts to support different installation looks.

Design & Installation

The M2-8HB uses an ultra-high-temperature PA66 frame with 30% glass fill and UV inhibitors, an injection-molded mineral-filled polypropylene cone, and a UV- and salt-fog-resistant TPE surround. Its vented motor uses a water-repelling nano-coated mesh screen, while gold-plated marine-grade brass terminals help resist corrosion. The concealed crossover network is fully sealed, and the supplied grille options provide either a black sport appearance or a stainless-steel look.

Verify the 7.05-inch cutout diameter and 3.35-inch mounting-depth requirement before cutting a mounting surface. The speakers use a 4-ohm load and should be paired with amplification appropriate for their 300-watt RMS rating. For RGB lighting control, use the separately sold PMX-RGB controller and RF Connect app; when hardwiring the lighting, Rockford Fosgate specifies a 9-16 volt supply, a recommended 1-amp fuse, and at least 20-gauge wire.
