Rockford Fosgate M1-8 8" Color Optix Marine Speakers

The Rockford Fosgate M1-8 is a pair of 8-inch, 2-way coaxial marine speakers designed for boats and powersports systems that need full-range sound plus integrated RGB illumination. Their white grilles and Color Optix lighting are suited to open-air installations where conventional car speakers may not offer the needed environmental protection. Each pair combines a large woofer, integrated tweeter, and concealed crossover in a marine-focused format.

With 150 watts RMS and 600 watts peak power handling, the M1-8 speakers are intended for systems that need clean output with suitable amplifier power. The 4-ohm design works with compatible marine head units or multi-channel amplifiers. A 35 Hz to 22 kHz frequency-response rating supports bass, midrange, and treble reproduction from a single speaker location.

A 1-inch balanced-dome tweeter is integrated into each grille to provide high-frequency detail without requiring separate tweeter mounting. The fully sealed Integrated Concealed Crossover network is built into the speaker assembly and uses a 6 dB/octave high-pass crossover. This approach keeps the installation cleaner while separating high-frequency duties from the woofer.

The M1-8 uses Rockford Fosgate Color Optix RGB LED illumination for coordinated lighting in a marine or motorsports audio system. It can connect to a compatible Color Optix controller and the RF Connect app for adjustable lighting patterns. The speaker can also be wired for fixed lighting colors using the Color Optix wiring configuration.

Element Ready construction addresses the exposure common to marine, UTV, and similar outdoor installations. The speakers carry an IP67 rating and use UV-stable, corrosion-resistant materials in key areas. They are a practical upgrade for systems that require larger 8-inch speakers, sealed crossover protection, and integrated lighting capability.

Design & Installation

The M1-8 uses a co-molded Santoprene VAST surround and mineral-filled polypropylene cone, along with a 100% UV-stable ASA plastic frame and grille. Its terminals are zinc-nickel-plated marine-grade brass, while the motor design and integrated crossover are sealed. Stainless-steel mounting hardware is included for corrosion-conscious installation.

Confirm the 7.1-inch cutout requirement, 3.3-inch mounting depth, and available rear clearance before installation. Connect speaker audio to a compatible 4-ohm amplifier or source, then use the integrated Color Optix connections for lighting. A PMX-RGB Color Optix controller is sold separately for RF Connect app-based lighting control; the LED circuit requires 9-16V power and a recommended 1-amp fuse.
