Hertz HMX 8 LD-TW 8" RGB LED Marine Coaxial Speakers

The Hertz HMX 8 LD-TW is a pair of 8-inch, 4-ohm two-way coaxial marine speakers with integrated RGB LED illumination and white grilles. They are designed for boat and powersports audio systems where exposure to water spray, UV light, salt fog, dust, and vibration is part of normal use. Their infinite-baffle design supports installation in suitable open mounting locations without requiring a dedicated speaker enclosure.

Each speaker handles 100 watts continuous power and 200 watts peak power, providing useful output for amplified marine audio systems. The 45 Hz to 25 kHz frequency response combines substantial midbass capability with extended high-frequency reproduction. With 91 dB sensitivity, the HMX 8 LD-TW can work effectively with an appropriately matched 4-ohm marine amplifier.

A 1.4-inch PEI dome tweeter with a neodymium magnet is paired with an acoustic lens to support off-axis dispersion. This coaxial arrangement keeps the woofer and tweeter in one mounting location, helping simplify installation in helm areas, cabins, decks, and side panels. A sealed built-in crossover routes frequencies between the drivers and includes resettable solid-state tweeter protection.

The woofer uses a UV-inhibitor polypropylene cone, a co-molded Santoprene rubber surround, and an aramid-fiber spider. Its 1-inch voice coil and high-density-flux ferrite magnet are engineered for controlled excursion and marine-duty operation. The basket and grille use high-temperature, UV-resistant polymer materials, while the tweeter is protected by a sound-transparent stainless-steel mesh.

RGB LEDs are integrated beneath the tweeter and diffuse through a transparent polypropylene cover. The lighting can be wired directly for seven fixed color options or connected to the optional Hertz HM RGB 1 BK LED controller. This makes the HMX 8 LD-TW a practical choice for systems that combine full-range marine sound with coordinated accent lighting.

Design & Installation

The HMX 8 LD-TW uses a marine-grade polymer basket and grille, a UV-inhibitor polypropylene cone, a Santoprene surround, and corrosion-resistant gold-plated terminals. Its white tone-on-tone grille complements the speaker while providing protection, and the stainless-steel tweeter mesh supports high-frequency transfer. The speaker is rated IP65 and is engineered for environmental stresses including UV exposure, salt fog, vibration, water spray, thermal shock, and dust.

Verify a 7.09-inch mounting cutout and 3.58 inches of mounting depth before installation; total rear depth is 4.84 inches. These speakers are developed for infinite-baffle use, so small sealed enclosures may reduce low-frequency performance. For RGB lighting, use a switched 12 VDC source, do not exceed 12.5 VDC, and protect the yellow LED power lead with a 100 mA fuse per speaker; the optional HM RGB 1 BK controller can be used for RGB control.
