Rockford Fosgate M2-8B 8" Black Marine Speakers

The Rockford Fosgate M2-8B is a pair of 8-inch, 2-way coaxial marine speakers designed for boats and powersports installations that need strong output with durable outdoor construction. This black version combines full-range audio reproduction with integrated Color Optix RGB illumination. It is intended for systems where conventional indoor speakers would be vulnerable to moisture, UV exposure, vibration, and corrosion.

Each M2-8B uses an integrated 1-inch laminated PXNX dome tweeter and a mineral-filled polypropylene cone to cover a broad 35 Hz to 24 kHz frequency range. With 250 watts RMS and 1,000 watts peak power handling per pair, these speakers are suited to amplified marine audio systems. Their 4-ohm nominal impedance makes them compatible with many conventional full-range amplifier channels.

The speakers use Rockford Fosgate's Vertical Attach Surround Technique (VAST), which increases effective cone area while retaining the 8-inch mounting format. A fully sealed, integrated concealed crossover network handles the transition to the tweeter with a 12 dB-per-octave high-pass slope. This construction keeps the crossover protected while supporting a clean, integrated coaxial layout.

Color Optix lighting adds RGB illumination through an optically clear, UV-stable encapsulated LED assembly. For programmable color patterns and app control, the speakers connect to the separately sold Rockford Fosgate PMX-RGB Color Optix controller and RF Connect app. They can also be wired for selected static colors using the appropriate Color Optix wiring configuration.

Element Ready construction helps the M2-8B stand up to marine and powersports environments. The design includes UV-resistant materials, a salt-fog-resistant TPE surround, corrosion-resistant terminals, and stainless-steel mounting hardware. It is a practical upgrade for compatible 8-inch cutouts when building a coordinated Rockford Fosgate Color Optix audio and lighting system.

Design & Installation

The M2-8B has a black Centrex plastic grille and trim-ring presentation, with an included stainless-steel grille alternative. Its cone is injection-molded, mineral-filled polypropylene with UV inhibitors, while the frame is glass-filled PA66 with UV inhibitors. A UV- and salt-fog-resistant TPE surround, gold-plated marine-grade brass terminals, insulated silicone tinsel leads, and stainless-steel hardware support use in exposed installations.

Confirm that the mounting surface provides a 7.05-inch cutout and at least 3.35 inches of mounting depth before installation. The six mounting locations are spaced at 60-degree intervals on a 7.76-inch screw-mounting circle, and supplied stainless-steel screws are intended for mounting. Connect speaker audio with correct polarity, use the included RGB harnesses for lighting, and use a PMX-RGB controller when app-controlled Color Optix patterns are desired.
