Rockford Fosgate M2-65 6.5" Color Optix Marine Speakers

The Rockford Fosgate M2-65 is a pair of 6.5-inch, 2-way coaxial marine speakers designed for boats, powersports vehicles, and other exposed installations. They combine full-range audio playback with integrated Color Optix RGB lighting in a white speaker and grille design. The system is intended for owners who need sound equipment built to handle sun, water exposure, and marine environments.

Each M2-65 uses a 4-ohm design with a 150-watt RMS power rating and a 40 Hz to 24 kHz frequency response. A 1-inch laminated PXNX dome tweeter is integrated into the speaker assembly, while the concealed crossover network manages the transition between the woofer and tweeter. This creates a compact full-range speaker solution without requiring separately mounted tweeters.

The speaker uses an injection-molded mineral-filled polypropylene cone, a UV- and salt-fog-resistant TPE surround, and a high-temperature PA66 glass-filled frame. Its vented motor includes a water-repelling nano-coated mesh screen, and the speaker uses corrosion-resistant marine-grade connection hardware. The M2-65 is IP67 certified as part of Rockford Fosgate's Element Ready design approach.

Integrated RGB LEDs can be connected through the speaker's Color Optix wiring system. When used with the separately sold Rockford Fosgate PMX-RGB Color Optix controller, lighting can be managed through the RF Connect app. Integrated Deutsch and Amphenol-style connection provisions help support organized speaker and lighting connections in compatible systems.

The M2-65 fits a 5.36-inch cutout and requires 2.49 inches of mounting depth, making it suitable for many marine speaker locations with adequate rear clearance. It includes a removable sport grille, stainless-steel grille inserts, stainless mounting screws, RGB harnesses, and driver bits. It can be used as a direct replacement for compatible 6.5-inch marine speakers or as part of a larger Color Optix audio and lighting system.

Design & Installation

The M2-65 pairs a mineral-filled polypropylene cone with a co-molded TPE surround and a UV-stable Centrex plastic grille. Its PA66 frame contains 30% glass fill and UV inhibitors, while gold-plated marine-grade brass terminals and stainless-steel mounting hardware are intended to support durable outdoor installations. The integrated tweeter uses a dual-neodymium motor, and the crossover network is fully sealed within the speaker.

Confirm a 5.36-inch mounting cutout, 2.49 inches of rear mounting depth, and clearance for the 7.05-inch overall speaker diameter before installation. The speakers can be connected using the included spade connectors or an optional Deutsch-style speaker connector; observe positive and negative speaker polarity. For Color Optix lighting, use the supplied RGB harnesses and either a PMX-RGB controller or a properly fused switched 12-volt setup; Rockford Fosgate recommends at least 20-gauge wire for hard-wired lighting connections.
