MB Quart RA1-280.4 Reference 4-Channel Amplifier $228.00

The MB Quart PS1-316 is a 6.5-inch, 3-way component speaker system designed for vehicle audio upgrades that need separate drivers for bass, midrange, and treble reproduction. Each pair includes two 6.5-inch mid-bass woofers, two 4-inch midrange drivers, two 1-inch tweeters, and two external crossover networks. It is intended for custom installations where factory speakers alone do not provide the desired system layout or tuning flexibility.

This system uses separate drivers to place low, middle, and high frequencies with their appropriate components rather than asking one full-range speaker to reproduce the entire range. The 6.5-inch mid-bass drivers use aerated paper cones with a mica blend, while the 1-inch tweeters use magnesium domes. This combination is built for listeners assembling a more detailed front-stage system with dedicated crossover control.

The PS1-316 is rated at 100 watts RMS per side and 200 watts peak per side, with a 4-ohm impedance. Its published frequency range is 20 Hz to 22 kHz, and its sensitivity is rated at 85.5 dB at 1 watt/1 meter. An appropriately matched external amplifier can help provide the clean power needed for the system's rated performance.

Its external passive crossover networks route frequencies to the individual drivers and use a Cauer-topology Butterworth filter design. The crossover provides 0 dB, +3 dB, and +6 dB tweeter-level connection options for system tuning. The tweeter housing also supports surface or flush mounting, while its removable phase lens can be used to select narrow or wide dispersion characteristics.

The PS1-316 is suited to vehicles with room for separate woofer, midrange, tweeter, and crossover installation locations. It can be used as a front-stage upgrade in a multi-amplifier or amplified factory-radio system, provided the mounting depth and wiring paths are checked first. Grilles, mounting hardware, crossover mounting material, and tweeter mounting parts are included for a custom installation.

Key Features

  • 3-Way Component Layout: Separate woofer, midrange, and tweeter drivers support a staged installation.
  • 6.5-Inch Mid-Bass Woofers: Aerated paper and mica-blend cones handle lower-frequency reproduction.
  • 1-Inch Magnesium Tweeters: Dome tweeters reproduce high frequencies with adjustable dispersion options.
  • External Passive Crossovers: Dedicated networks divide frequencies between the speaker components.
  • Tweeter Level Adjustment: Selectable 0 dB, +3 dB, and +6 dB connections aid tuning.
  • Included Installation Hardware: Grilles, tweeter mounts, templates, fasteners, and crossover mounts are supplied.

Design & Installation

The system combines paper/mica-cone woofer and midrange drivers with magnesium-dome tweeters. Molded polymer sealing gaskets help isolate the speakers from the mounting surface, while stainless-steel push-and-insert connectors are used for the connections. The woofers use a woven fiber cotton/poly-blend spider, and the frame and spider venting promote air movement around the voice coil.

Verify vehicle fitment, clearance behind the mounting surface, and window-mechanism clearance before permanently mounting the drivers. Connect the amplifier or head-unit speaker output to each crossover input, then connect each crossover output to its assigned speaker component while observing polarity. Mount the crossovers on a secure, dry surface away from window mechanisms, and use factory wire boots or grommets where possible when routing new wiring.
