The Mackie MRS10 is a powered 10-inch studio subwoofer built to extend the low-frequency range of a monitoring system. It is designed for producers, engineers, editors, and content creators who need to hear bass information that smaller nearfield monitors may not fully reproduce. Its stereo inputs and outputs allow it to sit between a line-level source and a pair of powered studio monitors.

With a 10-inch glass aramid composite woofer and 120 watts of internal amplification, the MRS10 is intended for controlled low-end monitoring rather than a passive-speaker setup. Its specified frequency range reaches down to 28 Hz at -10 dB, helping reveal kick drum, bass, synth, and effects content. A maximum peak SPL of 119 dB supports use in home, project, and post-production studio environments.

The adjustable 40 Hz to 180 Hz crossover lets users blend the subwoofer with different monitor sizes and frequency ranges. A 0 or 180 degree polarity switch provides a practical way to optimize the interaction between the subwoofer and main monitors at the listening position. An input-level control supports matching the subwoofer to the output level of an audio interface, mixer, or monitor controller.

Mackie uses a custom-tuned rear shelf port to extend bass response, while the MDF enclosure includes acoustic damping material. Vibration-absorbing rubber feet help reduce cabinet-to-surface resonance. The built-in overexcursion protection uses a high-pass filter ahead of the low-frequency amplifier to help protect the woofer from excessive very-low-frequency content.

For a typical 2.1 monitoring setup, connect the left and right line outputs of an interface or mixer to the MRS10, then connect its left and right outputs to powered monitors. The included bypass footswitch turns off the subwoofer and returns connected monitors to full-range playback for quick mix checks. Balanced XLR and 1/4-inch TRS connections provide flexibility when integrating professional line-level equipment.

Design & Installation

The MRS10 uses a 0.625-inch MDF cabinet with a 1.3-inch MDF front panel, adiabatic batting, and a custom-tuned rear shelf port. Its 10-inch woofer is housed in a compact studio-oriented enclosure measuring 15 inches high, 12.6 inches wide, and 15.2 inches deep. Rubber feet help isolate the cabinet from the supporting surface.

Connect only line-level sources to the balanced XLR or 1/4-inch TRS inputs; do not connect an amplifier's speaker-level outputs directly to the subwoofer. Route the MRS10's left and right outputs to powered monitors, set the crossover as a starting point based on the monitors' low-frequency range, and adjust level and polarity at the listening position. Leave space around the rear port and evaluate placement carefully, since wall and corner placement can increase perceived bass output.
