JBL Stage3 68C 6.5" 2-Way Component Speakers

The JBL Stage3 68C is a 6-1/2-inch two-way component car speaker system designed for upgrading factory door or panel speakers with separately mounted tweeters. It combines two 165mm woofers, two 0.75-inch tweeters, and external crossover boxes in one package. This layout gives installers flexibility to place high frequencies higher in the vehicle for a more focused front soundstage.

With a 95W RMS power-handling rating, 760W peak rating, and 4-ohm nominal impedance, the Stage3 68C can be paired with compatible car audio amplification or a suitable head unit. Its 91dB sensitivity rating is measured at 2.83V. The specified frequency response is 55Hz to 20kHz.

The system uses JBL's Plus One woofer cone architecture, which increases usable cone area compared with conventional designs. Its laser-etched woofer cone is reinforced with 10% glass fiber. This construction is intended to support low-frequency output while maintaining a distinctive finished appearance.

Dedicated edge-driven silk dome tweeters handle the upper frequency range of the component system. External crossover boxes are included to route the appropriate frequencies to the woofers and tweeters. The result is a purpose-built two-way system rather than a coaxial speaker with the tweeter mounted in the woofer frame.

Design & Installation

The Stage3 68C uses laser-etched, 10% glass-fiber-reinforced woofer cones and edge-driven silk dome tweeters. JBL also specifies post-consumer recycled plastic components, PVC-free wiring, and soy-ink packaging. The supplied grilles provide a finished appearance where the speakers are installed in exposed locations.

Each set includes two woofers, two tweeters, two crossover boxes, threaded flush-mount adapters, locking nuts, screws, spade clips, foam gaskets, logo badges, and a mini owner's manual. Plan wiring from the amplifier or receiver through each crossover box, then from the crossover to its woofer and tweeter.
