The JBL Stage3 68 is a pair of 6-1/2-inch coaxial car speakers designed for replacing or upgrading compatible factory speaker locations. Each speaker combines its woofer and tweeter in one assembly, helping simplify a full-range door, dash, or rear-deck speaker upgrade. Grilles and basic mounting hardware are included for installations where exposed speakers need protection.

With 70 watts RMS and 560 watts peak power handling, the Stage3 68 is suited to systems powered by a compatible factory head unit or aftermarket amplifier. Its true 4-ohm nominal load is intended to work with common car-audio speaker channels. The 55Hz to 20kHz frequency response covers bass, midrange, and high-frequency content within a compact coaxial format.

The speaker uses JBL's Plus One™ woofer cone architecture, which increases usable cone surface area compared with conventional designs in its class. More cone area supports stronger low-frequency output and sensitivity from the available amplifier power. The laser-etched woofer cone is reinforced with 10% glass fiber for a rigid, distinctive-looking diaphragm.

A PEI balanced-dome tweeter handles high frequencies from the center of the coaxial assembly. This design is intended to provide clear high-frequency reproduction while keeping the speaker package compact. The rated sensitivity is 91dB when measured at 2.83V.

The Stage3 68 is a practical choice for listeners seeking a straightforward 6.5-inch speaker upgrade without moving to a separate component system. It can be used as part of a matched front or rear speaker replacement, provided the vehicle has suitable mounting space. Verify vehicle-specific fitment, mounting depth, factory connector compatibility, and grille clearance before installation.

Key Features

  • 6-1/2-Inch Coaxial Design: Combines woofer and tweeter in each speaker assembly.
  • 70W RMS Power Handling: Supports compatible head-unit or amplifier power.
  • True 4-Ohm Load: Matches common car-audio speaker-channel configurations.
  • Plus One™ Woofer Architecture: Provides increased cone surface area for low-frequency output.
  • PEI Balanced-Dome Tweeter: Reproduces high-frequency detail in the coaxial design.
  • Grilles Included: Allows use in installations with visible speaker locations.

Design & Installation

The Stage3 68 uses a laser-etched woofer cone reinforced with 10% glass fiber and a PEI balanced-dome tweeter. JBL also specifies post-consumer recycled plastic components, PVC-free wiring, and packaging printed with soy-based inks. The speaker's coaxial construction places the tweeter over the woofer, minimizing the number of separate pieces required for installation.

Use the supplied foam gaskets, screws, spade clips, and logo badges as appropriate for the installation. Confirm that the vehicle accepts a 6-1/2-inch (165mm) speaker, and check mounting depth, mounting-hole pattern, terminal connection, and grille clearance before fitting. For amplified systems, use channels designed for 4-ohm speakers and set gains appropriately for the 70W RMS power rating.
