JBL Club 964M 6" x 9" Three-Way Car Speakers

The JBL Club 964M is a pair of 6" x 9" three-way car speakers for replacing factory speakers or building a more capable vehicle audio system. It is designed for vehicles with a compatible 6" x 9" speaker location and enough mounting clearance. With 85 watts RMS power handling per speaker, it can be used with compatible factory audio systems or aftermarket amplification.

A 93 dB sensitivity rating at 2.83V helps the Club 964M produce useful output from modest power while retaining capacity for an amplified system. Its 50 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response covers low-midbass through high frequencies in one coaxial speaker assembly. The 3-ohm nominal impedance is intended to work with compatible car-audio source units and amplifiers.

The Club 964M uses JBL Plus One woofer cone architecture, which provides more cone area than conventional cones of a similar overall size. More effective cone area can support low-frequency output and sensitivity in the available mounting space. The woofer is made with an acoustically damped, UV-resistant polypropylene cone for use in the heat and humidity of a vehicle environment.

For high frequencies, the speaker incorporates an edge-driven silk dome tweeter design. This design is intended to provide broad high-frequency coverage with a smooth presentation. The speaker's three-way construction also uses a 3 kHz crossover point specified by JBL.

These speakers fit naturally into a front-door, rear-deck, or cargo-area upgrade where a 6" x 9" location is available. They can serve as a direct speaker upgrade when factory mounting provisions are suitable, or as part of a system with an aftermarket amplifier. Confirm the vehicle opening, mounting depth, terminal clearance, and any adapter requirements before installation.

Design & Installation

The Club 964M uses a polypropylene woofer cone, butyl-rubber surround, silk edge-driven dome tweeter, and ferrite magnet motor structure. Its black speaker assembly includes protective grilles for installations that do not retain a factory grille. The design is intended for standard automotive use rather than marine or illuminated installations.

Verify the mounting location before purchase: the speaker measures 236.5 mm long by 163.0 mm wide, with a 77.8 mm mounting depth and 90.4 mm total depth. Use the supplied mounting hardware only where it suits the vehicle's panel and confirm whether vehicle-specific brackets, harness adapters, or additional wiring are needed. When adding an amplifier, select a compatible channel that is appropriately matched to the speaker's 85W RMS per-speaker rating and 3-ohm nominal impedance.
