Rockford Fosgate P2V2-69 6x9" 2-Way Convertible Speakers

The Rockford Fosgate P2V2-69 is a pair of 6x9-inch, 4-ohm convertible car speakers designed for upgrades where fitment and system flexibility both matter. Its removable tweeters allow the set to work as a conventional coaxial speaker or as a separated two-way component system. This gives installers a practical way to retain a factory-style speaker location or move the tweeters higher in the vehicle for a different presentation.

These speakers suit vehicles with a single 6x9-inch speaker location as well as vehicles that provide separate dash, sail-panel, or A-pillar tweeter locations. In coaxial configuration, the tweeter remains mounted in the woofer for a straightforward installation. In component configuration, the tweeter is removed and installed in an included flush- or surface-mount cup.

The P2V2-69 is rated for 75 watts RMS and 150 watts peak per speaker, with a 45 Hz to 25 kHz frequency response. Its 90 dB sensitivity rating at 1W/1m supports useful output from a compatible aftermarket amplifier or suitable factory-replacement system. The 6x9-inch format provides broad midbass capability while the separate 3/4-inch tweeter handles high-frequency detail.

Rockford Fosgate uses its Interchangeable Locking Mechanism to secure or release the tweeter from the woofer assembly. The woofer combines a curvilinear mica-reinforced polypropylene cone with a Santoprene half-roll surround and VAST 2.0 surround geometry. A removable motor cover can help accommodate installations with limited rear clearance.

When the tweeter is moved to a separate location, the included phase plug installs in the woofer and the included external passive crossover is used for the tweeter connection. The external crossover provides a 9 kHz high-pass filter and selectable 0 dB or -3 dB tweeter attenuation. This makes the P2V2-69 a flexible option for a factory speaker replacement, a two-way component upgrade, or a system that may later add compatible P3V2-25 midrange speakers.

Design & Installation

The P2V2-69 uses a 20-40% mica-reinforced polypropylene curvilinear woofer cone, Santoprene half-roll surround, 15% glass-fiber-reinforced PA66 composite basket, and 3/4-inch Tetolon inverted-dome tweeter. The cone and surround are chemically bonded, while the woofer uses a vented Kapton voice-coil former, Nomex spider, and ferrite motor structure. Copper spring contacts in the flush and surface tweeter cups allow the tweeters to be serviced from the front.

Confirm the 8.41 x 5.71-inch cutout and 3.13-inch mounting-depth requirements before purchase; removing the motor cover reduces the mounting depth to 2.55 inches. For coaxial use, install the speaker with its tweeter locked in place. For component use, relocate each tweeter using an included cup, install the supplied phase plug in the woofer, and connect the external passive crossover as directed; grilles are not included and are sold separately.
