The Hertz DSK165.3 is a 6.5-inch, two-way component speaker system designed for upgrading factory front-stage audio with separate woofers, tweeters, and crossover components. Its component layout allows the tweeters to be positioned higher in the cabin than a coaxial speaker typically permits. This helps create a more focused presentation for vocals and upper-frequency detail.

Built for vehicles using 6.5-inch speaker locations, the DSK165.3 combines 4-ohm impedance with 93 dB SPL sensitivity. Hertz rates the system for 80 watts continuous power handling and 160 watts peak power handling. It is suited to installations driven by a compatible factory or aftermarket source, as well as systems using appropriately configured external amplification.

The woofer uses a water-repellent pressed-paper V-cone design with a TPU surround. This construction is intended to support controlled cone movement, useful midrange detail, and bass output within the speaker's operating range. The specified frequency response is 50 Hz to 23 kHz.

For high frequencies, the system uses 24 mm PEI dome tweeters with neodymium magnets. The supplied high-pass crossover is specified at 3.5 kHz with a 12 dB-per-octave slope. Separating the tweeter and woofer lets the system direct the appropriate frequency range to each driver.

The DSK165.3 is a practical choice for a front-door and dash, sail-panel, or A-pillar upgrade where separate tweeter placement is possible. Its 144 mm woofer mounting cutout and 64 mm mounting depth should be checked against the vehicle before installation. Optional grilles are available, while tweeter mounting accessories are included.

Design & Installation

The woofer combines a water-repellent pressed-paper cone, TPU surround, high-density-flux ferrite magnet, pure-copper voice coil, and DIN-size basket with abrasion-resistant dust paint. The tweeter uses a PEI dome and neodymium magnet. Tin-plated high-current terminals, silver-plated lead wires, and a butyl-rubber protective cover are specified for the woofer assembly.

Confirm a 144 mm mounting cutout and at least 64 mm of woofer mounting depth before purchase, while allowing room for the separate tweeters and crossover components. The included double-angle cup, tweeter cup, and tweeter gasket support external or flush-style tweeter mounting approaches. Use the specified crossover with the system and verify amplifier or head-unit compatibility with a 4-ohm speaker load.
