The DCX 165.3 has a specified frequency response of 60 Hz to 21 kHz and a 93 dB sensitivity rating. Its performance profile supports broad, usable coverage for front or rear speaker locations, although it is not intended to replace a dedicated subwoofer for deep bass. The 120-watt peak rating provides additional headroom above its 60-watt continuous rating.

Hertz uses a high-density-flux ferrite woofer magnet and a neodymium tweeter magnet in this model. The 25 mm woofer voice coil and 135 mm effective diaphragm diameter are part of the speaker's documented electro-acoustic design.
