Hertz CK 165 6.5" Two-Way Component Speaker System

The Hertz CK 165 is a 6.5-inch two-way component speaker system designed for vehicle owners replacing factory front speakers with separate woofers, tweeters, and passive crossovers. Separating the high-frequency drivers from the door woofers gives installers more flexibility to position the tweeters near the listening area. The system is rated at 95 watts continuous and uses a 4-ohm nominal impedance.

This kit is suited to listeners seeking a more detailed front soundstage than a conventional coaxial speaker can provide. Its 26 mm Tetolon dome tweeters are engineered for natural medium- and high-frequency reproduction, while the 165 mm woofers handle the lower and midrange registers. The C 165 woofers use Hertz SPP-M semi-pressed paper-mica cones, combining semi-pressed paper with mica powder for a balance of low mass and damping. A high-density-flux ferrite motor and low-carbon polar plates support woofer control and reduced distortion at higher power levels. Each woofer uses a 25 mm voice coil on an aluminum former.

For the upper range, the C 26 tweeter uses a 26 mm soft Tetolon fiber dome, a 20 mm voice coil, and a neodymium magnet. Its faceplate geometry is optimized for off-axis installations, which is relevant when tweeters must be mounted in factory sail panels, dashboards, or other angled locations. The supplied passive crossover divides the system at 2.5 kHz with 12 dB-per-octave high-pass filtering.

The included CCX 2 crossover provides a selectable tweeter output level of 0 dB or +3 dB, allowing the high-frequency balance to be adjusted for vehicle acoustics and mounting position. CK 165 can be used with a compatible factory-radio upgrade or an external amplifier that is appropriate for its 4-ohm load and power rating. The C 165 woofer combines a semi-pressed paper-mica cone, ferrite magnet, aluminum voice-coil former, compact three-spoke basket, and rubber magnet cover. The C 26 tweeter uses a neodymium motor and soft Tetolon dome. Supplied CG 165 grilles use a high-resistance ABS structure with a metallic finish and removable metal mesh.

Confirm available door-panel clearance before installation: the C 165 woofer has a 142 mm mounting diameter and 62.5 mm mounting depth. Route the amplifier or head-unit speaker output to each CCX 2 crossover, then connect its woofer and tweeter outputs to their corresponding drivers with correct polarity.
