Crunch CRA-1500.1 Class D Mono Car Amplifier

The Crunch CRA-1500.1 is a compact mono car amplifier designed to power a subwoofer system from a single channel. It is intended for vehicle audio upgrades that need dedicated low-frequency amplification rather than additional full-range speaker channels. Its Class D architecture helps keep the amplifier footprint and current consumption lower than many traditional designs.

This amplifier provides manufacturer-listed output ratings at 1-, 2-, and 4-ohm loads, allowing it to be matched with a properly wired compatible subwoofer setup. Adjustable low-pass and subsonic filters help focus the amplifier on bass frequencies and tailor the system to the enclosure and speakers being used. A variable bass boost is also provided for controlled low-frequency adjustment.

The CRA-1500.1 accepts both RCA and high-level input signals, making it suitable for many aftermarket and factory-radio installations. High-level inputs can simplify integration when a source unit does not provide RCA preamp outputs. DC signal-sensing turn-on is available for installations where a conventional remote turn-on lead is not used.

Crunch equips the amplifier with a switch-mode power supply and SPEED-FET MOSFET output technology. The design also uses a low-noise preamplifier circuit, intended to support clean signal transfer through the amplification stage. Its rated frequency response of 12Hz to 310Hz is focused on subwoofer-duty applications.

A wired bass remote is included for convenient adjustment from the driver’s seat. The compact chassis can fit into many amplifier mounting locations, provided there is secure mounting and adequate ventilation. It is a practical choice for a bass-focused system when paired with correctly matched wiring, fusing, and speaker impedance.

Design & Installation

The CRA-1500.1 has a black chassis with an aluminum heat sink using Crunch Quick Thermal Dispersion Technology. Nickel-plated brass terminals are used for the power and speaker connections, while screw-down connectors provide hand-tool access. LED diagnostics monitor overload and speaker-short protection conditions.

Mount the amplifier securely on a surface with adequate airflow and do not mount it upside down. Use 4 AWG power and ground wiring, an external 125A fuse, and 8 AWG speaker wire as specified; the power cable should be fused within 18 inches of the battery. Set gain and crossover controls carefully, and match the connected subwoofer wiring to a supported 1-, 2-, or 4-ohm load.
