The EX version adds Line Out, Stereo Expand, and expanded foot-controller support beyond the standard Katana-50 Gen 3.

This amplifier is well suited to guitarists who want multiple core amp voices and onboard effects without building a large pedalboard setup. Six amp characters provide clean, pushed, crunch, lead, brown, and acoustic-style starting points, and each has a selectable variation. Four Tone Setting memories allow complete amp and effect setups to be stored for quick recall.

BOSS Tube Logic technology is designed to deliver responsive amplifier behavior and playing feel, while the Pushed amp character is tailored for touch-sensitive edge-of-breakup sounds. The reactive Class AB power section supports a familiar combo-amp response. A Power Control switch lets players choose standby, 0.5 W, half-power, or maximum-power operation for different volume needs.

Five independent effect sections—Booster, Mod, FX, Delay, and Reverb—make it possible to combine essential processing directly from the amplifier. Panel controls provide immediate access to core settings, while BOSS Tone Studio expands editing options from a compatible computer or mobile workflow. The software supports deeper amp and effect editing, effect-order changes, EQ options, and cabinet-sound customization for direct outputs.

The Katana-50 EX Gen 3 can serve as the center of a flexible guitar rig. Its Power Amp In accepts a preamp, modeler, or multi-effects processor, while Stereo Expand can link a compatible second Katana amplifier for wider stereo effects. A Line Out, stereo headphones output, AUX input, USB-C computer connection, and optional Bluetooth adaptor support practice, recording, and stage use.

Design & Installation

The Katana-50 EX Gen 3 uses a compact combo format with a custom 12-inch speaker, integrated handle, rubber feet, and a distinctive gray-and-black matrix grille. Its front-panel layout places amplifier, EQ, effect, master-volume, and Tone Setting controls within reach. The cabinet measures 470 mm wide, 238 mm deep, and 398 mm high, including its handle and rubber feet.

Connect an electric guitar to the 1/4-inch INPUT jack and select an amp character, variation, effects, and output setting from the front panel. Use the AUX IN jack for playback, the stereo PHONES jack for quiet practice, the USB-C port for computer or mobile recording workflows, or the LINE OUT jack for a PA feed. Optional FS-series footswitches, an expression pedal, GA-FC or GA-FC EX controller, BT-DUAL adaptor, and BAS-1 amplifier stand are available separately.
