The Audison APK690 is a Prima Series 2-way component speaker system designed for vehicles with factory 6 x 9-inch door speaker locations. It combines AP 690 elliptical woofers, AP 1 tweeters, and dedicated APCX TW 690 passive crossovers. This configuration provides a practical upgrade path for vehicles that need separate high-frequency placement rather than a coaxial speaker.
Rated for 100 watts continuous and 300 watts peak power handling, the APK690 presents a 4-ohm load to the audio system. Its specified system frequency response is 40 Hz to 20 kHz, covering bass and midrange output from the wofer section along with high-frequency extension from the separate tweeters. The woofer sensitivity is rated at 95 dB SPL.
The AP 690 woofer uses a 25 mm pure-copper voice coil and a water-repellent treated paper cone. Its cone profile was developed with FEM simulation and optimized with Klippel R&D Scan Vibrometer measurements. A Triple Wave surround is used to support linear cone excursion, while the compact basket is intended to help with OEM-style door installations.
The AP 1 tweeter has a 26 mm diaphragm with a wide-roll surround and an acoustic lens. Audison specifies the lens to help compensate for in-car response effects in the 10 kHz to 13 kHz range associated with challenging OEM mounting locations. The separate tweeter arrangement gives installers flexibility to retain or improve factory high-frequency speaker positions.
Each system uses an APCX TW 690 crossover, which applies a 6 dB-per-octave high-pass filter at 3.3 kHz for the tweeter. The compact crossover includes a 0 dB or +3 dB tweeter-level setting for adjustment after installation. The APK690 can be used as part of a factory-radio upgrade or paired with a compatible 4-ohm aftermarket amplifier.
Key Features
- 6 x 9-Inch Component System: Separate woofers and tweeters support flexible vehicle-specific placement.
- 100W Continuous Handling: Supports systems rated up to 100 watts continuous power.
- Dedicated Passive Crossovers: APCX TW 690 networks manage tweeter filtering and level adjustment.
- Adjustable Tweeter Output: Choose 0 dB or +3 dB tweeter attenuation settings.
- Water-Repellent Paper Cone: Treated woofer cone is designed for door-speaker environments.
- Pure Copper Woofer Coil: 25 mm voice coil supports power handling and cone control.
Design & Installation
The AP 690 woofer uses a compact, abrasion-resistant and scratch-resistant coated basket, with the motor secured using damping epoxy adhesive. Its 90 x 32 x 15 mm woofer magnet and 25 mm voice coil are paired with a treated paper cone and Triple Wave surround. The AP 1 tweeter uses a 26 mm diaphragm, while the compact APCX TW 690 crossover measures 46.5 x 37.5 x 20.1 mm.
Confirm that the vehicle accepts a 6 x 9-inch elliptical woofer and has adequate mounting clearance before purchase. Install the AP 1 tweeters and AP 690 woofers through the supplied APCX TW 690 crossovers; the crossover's fast-on connectors are intended to simplify correct connections. Match the system to a compatible 4-ohm amplifier or speaker channel, and use the 0 dB or +3 dB tweeter setting to suit the final mounting location.

Will the APK690 fit my vehicle?
It is designed for vehicles with 6 x 9-inch elliptical door-speaker locations. Confirm the factory opening, mounting clearance, and separate tweeter location in your specific vehicle before ordering.
What components are part of this system?
The APK690 system combines AP 690 woofers, AP 1 tweeters, and dedicated APCX TW 690 crossovers. It is a 2-way component system, not a coaxial speaker.
Are passive crossovers included?
Yes. The system uses dedicated APCX TW 690 passive crossovers. They provide a 6 dB-per-octave high-pass filter at 3.3 kHz and offer 0 dB or +3 dB tweeter-level adjustment.
Do I need an aftermarket amplifier?
The speakers have a 4-ohm nominal impedance and are rated for 100 watts continuous power handling. They can be used with a compatible 4-ohm audio channel; amplifier selection should match the power capability and configuration of the complete system.
What is the tweeter size?
The included AP 1 tweeter uses a 26 mm, or 1-inch, diaphragm. Its voice coil diameter is specified as 20 mm.
Can I adjust the tweeter level after installation?
Yes. The APCX TW 690 crossover has a selectable 0 dB or +3 dB tweeter-output setting. This allows adjustment for the installed tweeter location and in-car response.
