The Zoom ZUM-2 is a USB condenser microphone designed for direct recording, streaming, podcasting, voice-over work, online communication, and music creation with a computer. It connects through USB-C and is powered by the computer’s USB bus, eliminating the need for a separate audio interface or external microphone preamp. Its plug-and-play design helps simplify a desktop recording setup for creators who want a dedicated microphone rather than relying on a built-in computer mic.

Built around a back electret condenser capsule, the ZUM-2 uses a supercardioid pickup pattern to focus on the sound in front of the microphone while reducing pickup from surrounding room noise and off-axis sources. This makes it well suited to close-miked spoken-word applications such as podcasts, livestreams, gaming chat, voice-over recording, and video calls. The side-address format supports natural placement on a desktop stand or compatible microphone arm.

The microphone supports 24-bit digital audio at sample rates up to 96 kHz, giving compatible recording software access to high-resolution capture settings. Its specified 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response covers the standard audible range, while its 135 dB SPL maximum rating provides headroom for louder vocal or instrument sources. The ZUM-2 records mono microphone audio through its USB connection.

A built-in 3.5 mm stereo headphone output provides a convenient monitoring point directly on the microphone. The dedicated front-mounted headphone volume control lets users adjust the listening level without reaching for computer settings. This output is intended for monitoring computer audio through headphones connected to the microphone.

The included foam windscreen helps reduce breath noise and vocal plosives during close microphone use. Zoom also includes a USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable, a TPS-4 tabletop tripod mic stand, a pivoting stand mount, and a threaded adapter. Together, these accessories provide a ready-to-use desktop recording setup that can also be adapted for compatible microphone stands.

Design & Installation

The ZUM-2 has a black cylindrical body with a side-address microphone format, integrated blue power indicator, USB Type-C port, headphone output, and headphone volume knob. Its back electret condenser design and supercardioid pattern are intended for close, front-facing voice capture. The microphone measures 54 mm in diameter by 150 mm long and weighs 422 g.

Connect the included USB Type-A to USB Type-C cable between the microphone and a compatible Mac or Windows computer, then select ZUM-2 as the input and output device in the operating system or recording application. Position the microphone with the speaking side facing the user and use the included foam windscreen for close vocal work. The included TPS-4 tabletop tripod and pivoting mount support desktop placement, while the supplied 5/8-inch to 3/8-inch threaded adapter helps accommodate compatible stand hardware.
