sE Electronics T1 Large-Diaphragm Condenser Microphone
$345.51
Mogami GOLD STUDIO-25 25' XLR Microphone Cable
$119.95
The sE Electronics T1 is a large-diaphragm true-condenser microphone designed for detailed studio and live capture. Its cardioid-only pickup pattern focuses on the intended source while helping reduce pickup from the sides and rear. It is suited to vocals, acoustic instruments, piano, drum overheads, percussion, brass, and guitar or bass cabinets.
The T1 is built for sources with fast attack and broad dynamic range. Its titanium-sputtered diaphragm is designed to respond quickly to transients, making it a practical choice for cymbals, hand percussion, drums, and amplified instruments. The microphone retains a smooth condenser character while providing clear detail across its 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range.
A hand-crafted 1-inch true-condenser capsule is at the center of the T1 design. The titanium-sputtered Mylar diaphragm and cardioid response provide controlled, direct capture for close-miking and general recording duties. With 9 dB(A) equivalent noise, it is also appropriate for quieter studio sources when used with a suitable preamp or audio interface.
Switchable attenuation pads help the T1 work with high-SPL sources without overloading the microphone input. Selectable -10 dB and -20 dB settings raise its maximum SPL handling from 137 dB to 147 dB and 157 dB, respectively. Switchable 80 Hz and 160 Hz low-cut filters can reduce rumble, handling noise, and excessive low end from close placement.
The T1 fits naturally into a recording setup with an audio interface, mixer, or preamp that supplies 48V phantom power. Its 3-pin XLR output supports standard balanced microphone connections, while the included shockmount helps isolate the microphone from stand-borne vibration. For stereo recording, the T1 is also offered by sE Electronics in a factory-matched pair configuration.
Key Features
- Cardioid Pickup Pattern: Focuses on the source in front of the microphone while reducing off-axis pickup.
- Titanium-Sputtered Diaphragm: Supports fast transient response for percussion, drums, and other dynamic sources.
- 1-Inch True-Condenser Capsule: Provides large-diaphragm condenser capture for studio and live applications.
- Switchable Attenuation Pads: -10 dB and -20 dB pad settings support louder instruments and amplifiers.
- Selectable Low-Cut Filters: 80 Hz and 160 Hz filter settings help control rumble and proximity-effect buildup.
- Low Self-Noise: A 9 dB(A) equivalent noise rating supports detailed recording of quieter sources.
Design & Installation
The T1 uses an all-metal housing with a spring-steel grille and metal switches for regular studio or stage handling. Its compact body measures 146 mm long by 29 mm wide, and the microphone uses a hand-crafted titanium-sputtered true-condenser capsule. A custom shockmount, thread adapter, and metal storage case are included with the standard T1 package.
Connect the T1 to a microphone preamp, mixer, or audio interface with a balanced 3-pin XLR microphone cable, then enable 48V phantom power according to the connected equipment's instructions. Mount it in the included shockmount on a stable microphone stand, and begin with the pad and low-cut controls disengaged before applying them as needed for loud sources or unwanted low-frequency content. Use the cardioid side toward the desired source for the intended pickup response.

What equipment is required to use the T1?
The T1 requires a microphone preamp, mixer, or audio interface that supplies 48V phantom power. Use a balanced XLR microphone cable with XLR connectors at both ends.
Can the T1 handle drums and guitar cabinets?
Yes. Its selectable -10 dB and -20 dB pads support maximum SPL handling up to 157 dB SPL at 0.5% THD, making it suitable for loud sources.
Does the T1 have multiple polar patterns?
No. The T1 uses a fixed cardioid polar pattern. This pattern is intended to prioritize sound arriving from the front of the microphone.
What accessories come with the standard T1 microphone?
The standard T1 box includes the T1 microphone, a custom shockmount with thread adapter, and a metal case. The matched-pair version has two microphones, two shockmounts, a stereo mounting bar, and a metal case.
What do the low-cut filter settings do?
The switchable 80 Hz and 160 Hz low-cut filters reduce low-frequency content. They can help manage rumble, footfall noise, and excess bass caused by close microphone placement.
What is the T1 warranty?
sE Electronics states that the microphone includes a two-year warranty from original retail purchase. Registration can extend coverage to three years, subject to the manufacturer's warranty terms.
