sE Electronics sE4100 Matched Pair Condenser Microphones

The sE Electronics sE4100(P) is a factory-matched pair of large-diaphragm condenser microphones for stereo recording and live sound applications. Each microphone uses a cardioid pickup pattern to focus on the intended source while helping reduce sound arriving from the rear and sides. The pair is suited to drum overheads, acoustic instruments, piano, guitar cabinets, brass, woodwinds, orchestral work, and vocals.

Built around a hand-crafted 1-inch gold-sputtered true-condenser capsule, the sE4100 is designed for smooth, natural capture across a broad 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range. Its 25 mV/Pa sensitivity and 9 dB(A) equivalent noise level support detailed recording of both close-miked and more nuanced sources. The cardioid-only design keeps operation straightforward for common studio and stage miking tasks.

Switchable low-cut filters at 80 Hz and 160 Hz help reduce rumble, stand vibration, and excessive proximity effect at the microphone. Selectable -10 dB and -20 dB attenuation pads increase headroom for louder sources such as drums, brass, and amplified guitar cabinets. With the pads engaged, maximum SPL capability reaches up to 147 dB or 157 dB at 0.5% THD, depending on the selected setting.

The matched-pair configuration is tested and tuned in-house for closely aligned frequency response between the two microphones. This consistency is useful when building stereo arrays for overheads, room capture, acoustic ensembles, and instrument spot miking. A stereo mounting bar is included to support compact stereo microphone placement.

Each microphone connects through a standard 3-pin male XLR output and requires 48V phantom power. The pair can be integrated with a microphone preamp, audio interface, mixer, or recorder that supplies IEC 61938-compliant P48 power. Custom shockmounts help isolate the microphones from stand-borne vibration while supporting close placement around drums and amplifiers.

Design & Installation

The sE4100 uses a die-cast all-metal housing, metal switches, and a spring-steel wire-mesh grille. Its flat, round-edged chassis is designed to work with the included custom suspension shockmount. The matched-pair kit stores both microphones and accessories in its supplied metal case.

Connect each microphone to a balanced XLR microphone input that provides 48V phantom power, then mount the pair using the included shockmounts and stereo bar. Choose the low-cut filter and pad setting before recording based on source level, low-frequency buildup, and microphone distance. For stereo capture, position the microphones according to the desired technique and maintain consistent placement relative to the sound source.
