The RØDE NT1 Signature Series is a large-diaphragm XLR condenser microphone for studio recording, streaming, podcasting and voice-over work. It is designed for creators who want a dedicated studio microphone rather than a USB microphone, using an audio interface or mixer as the connection to a computer. Its cardioid pickup pattern focuses on sound arriving at the front of the microphone while reducing pickup from behind it. This makes it well suited to close-miked vocals, spoken word and single-instrument recording in a treated or reasonably controlled room. The gold dot on the microphone body identifies the front, helping users position it correctly toward the sound source.

The NT1 Signature Series uses RØDE's HF6 1-inch true condenser capsule and a side-address design. Its stated 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency range, 25 mV/Pa sensitivity and 4 dBA equivalent noise support detailed recording of quiet vocal passages and acoustic instruments. The microphone is specified for sound-pressure levels up to 142 dB SPL, providing headroom for louder sources when used with appropriate gain settings.

Connection is through a standard 3-pin XLR output, so the microphone requires an XLR-equipped mixer, audio interface or similar device. It also requires 48V phantom power supplied through the XLR connection. The included SM6 mount helps isolate the microphone from stand-borne movement and includes a pop filter for reducing plosive bursts from vocal performance. The mount fits standard microphone stands and studio arms with 5/8-inch or 3/8-inch threads, and it can be used upright or inverted. This package provides the essential microphone-side accessories, while the recording interface, stand or arm, headphones and computer software are selected separately.

Design & Installation

The NT1 Signature Series has a rugged aluminium body with a high-grade finish designed to resist scuffs and scratches. Its 52 x 52 x 189 mm housing weighs 313 g, and the side-address layout uses a gold dot to mark the recording side. RØDE designs and makes the microphone in its precision manufacturing facilities in Sydney, Australia.

Install the microphone in the included SM6 shock mount on a compatible stand or studio arm, point the gold dot toward the performer, and place the pop filter between the performer and capsule. Connect the included XLR cable to an interface, mixer or comparable device, reduce input level before connection, then enable 48V phantom power where required. For computer recording, use the interface as the bridge to recording software.
