Rockford Fosgate P500X2 500W 2-Channel Amplifier

The Rockford Fosgate Punch P500X2 is a two-channel car audio amplifier designed to add dedicated power to speakers, component systems, or a bridged subwoofer setup. It delivers 150 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms, 250 watts RMS per channel at 2 ohms, or 500 watts RMS bridged at 4 ohms. This makes it a practical choice for systems that need more output than a factory or aftermarket receiver can provide.

Its two-channel layout supports several upgrade paths. Use it in stereo for a pair of full-range speakers or component speakers, or bridge it to a compatible 4-ohm subwoofer load. The 2-ohm stereo stability gives installers flexibility when matching speaker impedance and amplifier output.

The P500X2 uses a Class A/B circuit topology and covers a 20 Hz to 20 kHz frequency response range. Variable high-pass, low-pass, and all-pass crossover modes help direct the appropriate frequencies to the speakers or subwoofer being powered. Its adjustable Punch EQ can provide bass and treble contouring based on the selected crossover mode.

High- and low-level input capability helps the amplifier work with either an aftermarket receiver or many factory audio systems. When a high-level signal is used, the amplifier's auto turn-on function is active. RCA pass-through outputs also make it easier to send the incoming signal to additional amplifiers in a multi-amp system.

Rockford Fosgate's C.L.E.A.N. setup features input and output clip indicators to assist with gain adjustment. The amplifier also includes short-circuit, over-current, and thermal protection functions. A compact full-chassis format, top-mounted controls, and an optional PLC2 remote level control support a tidy, adjustable installation.

Design & Installation

The P500X2 uses a cast-aluminum heatsink with convection cooling and a stealth top-mounted control panel. Nickel-plated captive C-clamp speaker terminals accept up to 8 AWG speaker wire, while the power and ground terminals accept 4 AWG wire. Power, protect, thermal, input-clip, and output-clip indicators provide visible system status during setup and operation.

Plan for 4 AWG power and ground wiring, an 80-amp fuse near the vehicle battery, RCA cables or an appropriate speaker-wire-to-RCA input adapter, and compatible speakers or subwoofers. Mount the amplifier where airflow can circulate around the heatsink, with at least 1 inch of clearance recommended. Use the high-pass crossover for full-range speakers, the low-pass crossover for a bridged subwoofer application, and verify that the final load is no lower than 2 ohms stereo or 4 ohms bridged.
