Kenwood Excelon CMOS-740HD HD Rear View Camera

The Kenwood Excelon CMOS-740HD is a compact HD rear view camera designed to add a clearer reversing view to a compatible Kenwood multimedia receiver. It captures a 1280 x 720 image and sends its signal through an HD-TVI connection for use with receivers that support an HD camera input. It is intended to supplement normal visual checks while parking, reversing, and maneuvering at low speed.

This camera is suited to drivers upgrading a compatible Kenwood display system who want more image detail than a conventional low-resolution backup camera provides. Its wide-angle lens delivers a 180-degree horizontal field of view to help show a broad area behind the vehicle. The camera outputs a mirror image configured for rear-view use.

HDR technology helps preserve visible detail when bright and dark areas appear in the same scene. This is useful around backlit driveways, nighttime street lighting, garages, and other high-contrast conditions. The 1/3.8-inch color CMOS sensor records at 30 frames per second for a steady live camera view.

The CMOS-740HD is built for exterior vehicle use with an IP67 water- and dust-resistance rating. It operates from 12V or 24V DC vehicle electrical systems, making it appropriate for many passenger vehicles and commercial applications. Its specified operating temperature range is -30°C to +85°C.

As part of a compatible Kenwood camera system, the CMOS-740HD connects to an HD-camera-capable navigation system or video monitor through the supplied camera wiring and power unit. The compact camera housing can be positioned at the rear of the vehicle and aimed to include the bumper at the bottom of the display. A compatible Kenwood receiver or monitor is required and sold separately.

Design & Installation

The camera uses a compact 31.1 x 23.0 x 25.2 mm housing with a wide-angle 1.86 mm f/2.0 lens and a separate power unit. A supplied mounting bracket supports adhesive mounting and can also be secured with the included clamping screw. The camera assembly weighs 33.2 g without its cable.

Professional installation is recommended because routing, grounding, fused accessory-power connection, and camera positioning require vehicle-specific work. Mount the camera centrally where it does not obstruct the license plate, orient the Kenwood logo upward, and adjust the angle so the vehicle bumper is visible at the bottom of the screen. Connect it only to a monitor or receiver with an HD-camera-compatible input, and use the supplied 2A fuse in the power connection.
