Kenwood CMOS-740HDLP HD License Plate Backup Camera

The Kenwood CMOS-740HDLP is an HD rear-view camera package designed to add a clear backup view to select compatible Kenwood and JVC multimedia receivers. It combines the CMOS-740HD camera with a CA-LPM10 license plate mounting attachment for a clean, vehicle-friendly installation. The camera is intended to supplement rearward visibility while parking and reversing.

Its 1280 x 720 HD image output gives compatible HD-capable receivers a more detailed camera view than standard-definition systems. A 180-degree horizontal viewing angle helps show a broad area behind the vehicle, while the 103-degree vertical angle supports useful coverage near the bumper. The camera presents a mirrored rear-view image for familiar backup-camera operation.

High Dynamic Range processing helps the camera manage scenes containing both bright and dark areas. This is useful when backing out of shaded driveways, facing bright daylight, or using the camera near street lighting at night. The 1/3.8-inch color CMOS sensor operates across object illumination levels from 1.0 lux to 100,000 lux.

The CMOS-740HD uses an HD-TVI video interface, so it requires a receiver or monitor with a compatible HD camera input. It is not a universal upgrade for every composite-camera input or factory display. Confirm HD camera-input compatibility with the intended receiver before installation.

The included CA-LPM10 mounting attachment positions the camera at the license plate area without requiring a separate camera-mount solution. The camera is IP67 rated for resistance to dust and water intrusion, and it supports 12-volt and 24-volt vehicle electrical systems. This package is a practical fit for compatible head-unit upgrades where an integrated HD backup view is desired.

Design & Installation

The compact camera uses a wide-angle 1.86 mm F2.0 lens and a 1/3.8-inch color CMOS sensor. Its camera housing measures 31.1 x 23.0 x 25.2 mm and weighs 33.2 g without the cable. The included license plate attachment has a powder-coated finish and measures 179 x 35 x 29 mm.

Install the camera at the rear license plate area, route the camera and power wiring safely, and connect it to a compatible HD-TVI camera input. The power harness should connect to switched accessory power and vehicle ground, using the specified 2A fuse. Professional installation is recommended because mounting and wiring require vehicle-specific routing and proper verification of receiver compatibility.
