The Hertz HCP2 is a compact two-channel car audio amplifier designed to add dedicated power to an aftermarket or factory-based audio system. It supports stereo operation for a pair of speakers or bridged mono operation for a single compatible load. Pre-In and Speaker-In connections provide options for integrating it with a wide range of source units.
For stereo systems, the HCP2 delivers 55 watts RMS per channel into 4 ohms or 85 watts RMS per channel into 2 ohms at 1% THD. Its AB-Class amplifier stage is intended for drivers who want more controlled, externally amplified sound from front speakers, rear speakers, or component systems. The amplifier is stable down to 2 ohms per channel in stereo operation.
The HCP2 can also be configured in mono mode for a 4-ohm bridged load. In that configuration, it produces 170 watts RMS at 14.4 volts and 1% THD. This makes it suitable for a modest subwoofer channel when the connected load meets the amplifier's minimum bridged impedance requirement.
Hertz equips the HCP2 with balanced input circuitry to help reject electromagnetic interference at its preamplified and speaker-level inputs. Its selectable crossover section includes full-range operation, an 80 Hz high-pass filter, and a 50 to 500 Hz low-pass filter. A selectable 50 Hz bass boost offers 0, 6, or 12 dB of low-frequency adjustment.
The compact chassis measures 8.46 by 7.48 by 1.97 inches, allowing the amplifier to fit in many space-conscious vehicle installations. ART automatic remote turn-on and turn-off can operate with the Speaker-In connection, reducing the need for a separate remote signal from certain factory radios. A full-range pre-out is also provided for system expansion.
Key Features
- Two-Channel or Bridged Operation: Run a stereo speaker pair or bridge the channels for a compatible 4-ohm mono load.
- Pre-In and Speaker-In: Connect to aftermarket RCA outputs or speaker-level outputs from many factory radios.
- ART Auto Turn-On: Automatically turns the amplifier on and off with a speaker-level input signal.
- Adjustable Crossover Section: Select full-range, 80 Hz high-pass, or 50 to 500 Hz low-pass operation.
- Selectable Bass Boost: Adjust 50 Hz boost to 0, 6, or 12 dB for system tuning.
- Balanced Input Circuitry: Helps reduce electromagnetic interference entering through the audio inputs.
Design & Installation
The HCP2 uses an extruded aluminum heat sink designed to transfer heat away from its internal electronics and dissipate it through the amplifier's sides. Its compact 1.97-inch-high enclosure weighs 3.96 pounds and is sized for installations where amplifier space is limited. The amplifier includes a 20-amp onboard fuse requirement and operates from an 11 to 15 VDC vehicle electrical system.
Install the HCP2 securely with clearance around the chassis for heat dissipation, then connect the source through either Pre-In or Speaker-In. Use stereo speaker wiring with loads no lower than 2 ohms per channel, or use a single 4-ohm load when bridging the amplifier. Set the crossover, gain sensitivity, mono switch, and bass boost according to the speakers or subwoofer being powered.

Can the HCP2 power a pair of door speakers?
Yes. It delivers 55 watts RMS per channel at 4 ohms or 85 watts RMS per channel at 2 ohms, both measured at 14.4 VDC and 1% THD. The minimum stereo load is 2 ohms per channel.
Can this amplifier be bridged for a subwoofer?
Yes. The HCP2 has a mono on/off setting and produces 170 watts RMS into a 4-ohm bridged load at 14.4 VDC and 1% THD. Do not use a bridged load below 4 ohms.
Will it work with a factory radio?
It has Speaker-In inputs for connection to speaker-level outputs. Its ART feature can automatically turn the amplifier on and off when using Speaker-In.
Can I use RCA outputs from an aftermarket receiver?
Yes. The Pre-In accepts 0.2 to 5 VRMS input signals. The amplifier also includes a full-range pre-out for expanding the system with another amplifier.
What crossover settings are available?
The HCP2 offers full-range operation, a fixed 80 Hz high-pass filter, and an adjustable 50 to 500 Hz low-pass filter. It also has selectable 50 Hz bass boost settings of 0, 6, or 12 dB.
What power system does the HCP2 require?
It operates on an 11 to 15 VDC vehicle electrical system and uses one 20-amp fuse. Maximum musical-power consumption is rated at 12 amps with a 2-ohm load and 14.4 VDC supply.
