The Hertz H8DSPDRC is an 8-channel digital signal processor designed to integrate aftermarket amplification and speakers with factory or aftermarket audio systems. It accepts high-level speaker signals, auxiliary low-level signals, and optical digital audio, giving installers multiple ways to build a clean signal path. Its eight low-level RCA outputs provide flexible routing for active front stages, rear channels, a center channel, and a subwoofer.

This processor is intended for listeners and installers who want more control than a head unit or amplifier crossover can provide. It can address common vehicle-audio challenges such as factory equalization, filtered OEM speaker outputs, and unequal speaker distances from the listening position. Automatic de-equalization and channel summing functions support integration with many factory systems.

The H8 DSP is built around a 32-bit DSP processor with 24-bit A/D and D/A conversion. Each output channel has its own 31-band graphic equalizer, crossover settings, phase control, and time-alignment adjustment. This allows precise tuning of tonal balance, speaker handoff, and arrival time at the listening position.

For system performance, the processor supports a maximum 4 V RMS output level at 0.1% THD and a frequency bandwidth of 10 Hz to 22 kHz. Its optical S/PDIF input accepts PCM signals up to 96 kHz/24-bit, helping preserve a digital signal path from a compatible source. The processor also provides separate signal-to-noise specifications for digital, master, and auxiliary inputs.

The included DRC HE remote control provides access to everyday functions without connecting a computer. It can select master, auxiliary, or optical sources; switch between two saved tuning memories; and adjust volume, balance, fader, and subwoofer level. The H8DSPDRC is a signal-processing component and requires external amplifiers to power speakers.

Key Features

  • Eight RCA Outputs: Routes processed low-level audio to up to eight amplifier channels.
  • Three Input Types: Supports high-level, auxiliary RCA, and optical S/PDIF source connections.
  • 31-Band EQ Per Output: Provides detailed tonal adjustment for each output channel.
  • Active Crossovers: Assign full-range, high-pass, low-pass, or band-pass filtering per channel.
  • Time Alignment: Delays individual channels to help align speaker arrival times.
  • DRC HE Remote: Controls source selection, memories, volume, balance, fader, and sub level.

Design & Installation

The H8 DSP uses a compact processor format measuring 7.51 inches wide, 1.33 inches high, and 4.76 inches deep. It weighs approximately 1.32 lb and uses a 20-pin multipolar connector for power, high-level inputs, and control wiring. Dedicated RCA output connections, an auxiliary RCA input, optical input, USB Type-B port, and DRC connection simplify system layout.

Mount the processor in a dry, secure location with access for USB setup and future service. Use 16 AWG power wiring as specified by Hertz, connect the processor before downstream amplifiers in the remote-turn-on sequence, and configure tuning with a compatible Windows PC. The DRC HE can be installed within reach for source selection, memory recall, and daily level adjustments.
