Cerwin-Vega CVM1 Digital Bass Enhancer

The Cerwin-Vega CVM1 is a digital bass enhancement processor for car audio systems using RCA-level signal connections. It is designed to restore and contour low-frequency information before the signal reaches downstream audio components. This makes it a useful addition when a system needs more adjustable bass response than a head unit or amplifier alone provides.

The CVM1 is intended for enthusiasts building or refining a subwoofer-equipped system with compatible RCA signal paths. Its balanced input circuit accepts signals up to 15V RMS, helping it work with higher-voltage aftermarket preamp outputs. The processor is installed inline ahead of a crossover, equalizer, or amplifier.

Its bass controls allow the user to choose the center frequency most affected by the restoration circuit, then adjust the width of the affected frequency range. The Sweep control operates from 27Hz to 63Hz, allowing tuning around the vehicle, enclosure, and subwoofer system. A separate bass output control provides selectable output settings to help match the processor to connected equipment.

The CVM1 includes a dash-mount remote control for convenient adjustment from the driver seat. The remote combines bass-level adjustment with variable PFM subsonic filtering from 35Hz to 80Hz. This gives the user a practical way to reduce unwanted ultra-low-frequency content while tailoring bass level for different recordings.

Three Bass Maximizer LEDs provide visual indication when the bass-maximization circuit is active, while a separate power LED confirms operation. With RCA input and output connections, the CVM1 fits into systems using an aftermarket source unit, equalizer, crossover, or amplifier with compatible line-level connections. Careful setup is important, since bass restoration can increase low-frequency demand on amplifiers, subwoofers, and enclosures.

Design & Installation

The CVM1 uses a compact processor chassis with panel-mounted Sweep and Wide controls, RCA input and output connections, a remote-control port, and a screw-terminal power connector. Its design also includes three Bass Maximizer indicator LEDs, a power-on LED, and internal jumpers for input grounding, ground isolation, and bass-output selection. Cerwin-Vega does not publish a chassis material specification for this model.

Install the CVM1 in an accessible, securely mounted location and connect it inline before a crossover, equalizer, or amplifier. Connect B+ to a 12V power source, remote turn-on to a 12V DC activation lead, and ground to the vehicle chassis. Start with the factory bass-output jumper setting, then set output level and subsonic filtering conservatively to suit the amplifier, subwoofer size, enclosure, and listening level.
