The Memphis PRX400.1V2 is a compact monoblock amplifier designed to add dedicated subwoofer power to a car audio system. It delivers 400 watts RMS to one channel at 2 ohms, with additional power ratings for 1-ohm and 4-ohm subwoofer loads. This makes it a practical choice for systems that need controlled low-frequency reinforcement without using a large amplifier chassis.

It is intended for listeners building a focused bass section around one subwoofer or a properly wired pair of subwoofers. Its mono configuration concentrates amplifier output on the low-frequency channel instead of powering full-range speakers. The amplifier is stable to 1 ohm, giving installers flexibility when matching compatible subwoofer voice-coil configurations.

Variable low-pass, subsonic, and bass-boost controls help tailor the subwoofer channel to the rest of the system. The low-pass crossover can reduce upper-bass and midrange content reaching the subwoofer, while the subsonic filter can help manage very low frequencies. A wired remote level control allows convenient adjustment of subwoofer output from the front of the vehicle.

The PRX400.1V2 uses an extruded aluminum heatsink and built-in protection circuitry for overload, short-circuit, thermal, and reverse-polarity conditions. Its top-mounted controls sit beneath a removable acrylic panel, keeping adjustments accessible while maintaining a clean installed appearance. Blue LED lighting is integrated into the top cover and undermount area.

This amplifier can be used with aftermarket receivers through RCA inputs or integrated into many factory-audio upgrades through its high-level input capability. Stereo RCA outputs can pass signal to an additional amplifier when expanding the system. Memphis recommends its 8GKIT amplifier installation kit for this model.

Key Features

  • 400W RMS at 2 Ohms: Supplies substantial continuous power for a compatible subwoofer system.
  • 1-Ohm Stable Mono Design: Supports flexible subwoofer wiring configurations down to a 1-ohm load.
  • Variable Low-Pass Filter: Adjusts the subwoofer’s upper frequency range from 50Hz to 250Hz.
  • Variable Subsonic Filter: Helps reduce ultra-low frequencies from 10Hz to 50Hz.
  • Wired Remote Level Control: Lets you adjust subwoofer output level from the driver area.
  • High-Level Input Capability: Supports integration with many factory radio or OEM amplifier systems.

Design & Installation

The PRX400.1V2 has a compact chassis with an extruded aluminum heatsink, platinum-plated connectors, and a removable LED-accented acrylic top panel. Its concealed top-mounted controls provide access to gain, filtering, bass boost, and setup adjustments. Blue top-cover and undermount LED lighting add visual accent illumination after installation.

Mount the amplifier in a dry location with adequate ventilation, such as a trunk, hatch area, or behind a truck seat, and do not mount it with the heatsink fins facing down. Use the recommended 8-gauge amplifier kit, route power wiring through a properly fused connection near the battery, and verify final speaker impedance before connecting the subwoofer. For factory-radio integration, use the high-level input adapters; for aftermarket systems, use the RCA inputs and set gain and crossover controls during system tuning.
