Memphis PRX1000.1V2 Monoblock Subwoofer Amplifier

The Memphis PRX1000.1V2 is a compact monoblock car amplifier designed to provide dedicated power for a subwoofer system. It delivers 400 watts RMS at 4 ohms, 750 watts RMS at 2 ohms, and up to 1000 watts RMS at a 1-ohm load. This makes it a practical choice for drivers building or upgrading a bass-focused system without using a multi-channel amplifier for subwoofer duty.

This amplifier is intended for users who want controlled low-frequency output from compatible subwoofers in cars, trucks, and SUVs. Its mono Class D design is optimized for subwoofer amplification and is stable down to 1 ohm. Proper subwoofer wiring is important, since loads below 1 ohm are not supported.

The PRX1000.1V2 includes adjustable low-pass, subsonic, and bass-boost controls to help tailor bass response to the subwoofer and enclosure. The low-pass crossover can be set from 50 to 250 Hz, while the variable subsonic filter helps remove frequencies below the selected point. A wired remote level control is included for convenient output adjustment from the front of the vehicle.

Memphis uses an extruded aluminum heatsink to support heat dissipation, along with protection circuitry for overload, short circuit, thermal, and reverse-polarity conditions. The amplifier has a removable LED-accented acrylic top panel that covers its top-mounted adjustment controls. Blue top-panel and undermount LED lighting provide a finished appearance when the amplifier is installed in a visible location.

For system integration, the PRX1000.1V2 accepts low-level RCA signals and high-level speaker signals, allowing it to work with aftermarket or compatible factory audio systems. Selectable turn-on options support remote-wire, DC-offset, and audio-sensing installations. RCA outputs allow the input signal to be passed to an additional amplifier when expanding the system.

Design & Installation

The PRX1000.1V2 uses a compact extruded aluminum heatsink chassis measuring 8.6 x 5.7 x 2.16 inches. Its removable acrylic top cover conceals the tuning controls while allowing access for setup. Blue LED illumination is integrated into the top cover and beneath the amplifier.

Use a compatible subwoofer configuration with a final impedance of 1, 2, or 4 ohms, and verify the load before connecting it to the amplifier. Memphis recommends its 4GKIT amplifier kit; a 4-gauge power and ground installation with a 100-amp fuse near the battery is recommended. Mount the amplifier securely in a ventilated area, avoid placing its cooling fins downward, and use the included remote level control if in-cabin bass adjustment is desired.
