Crunch SA-1100.4 4-Channel Class AB Car Amplifier

The Crunch SA-1100.4 is a four-channel Class AB car amplifier designed to add dedicated amplification to a factory or aftermarket audio system. It can power front and rear speakers from four channels or be configured to bridge channel pairs for higher-output two-channel applications. Its selectable operating modes make it suitable for straightforward speaker upgrades as well as mixed speaker-and-subwoofer system layouts.

At its published output ratings, the SA-1100.4 delivers 40 watts per channel into 2 ohms or 30 watts per channel into 4 ohms. When two channel pairs are bridged into 4-ohm loads, it provides 60 watts per bridged channel pair. This flexibility helps match the amplifier to common full-range speaker configurations without requiring separate amplifiers for every setup.

The amplifier uses Class AB topology with a pulse-width-modulated power supply and Crunch SPEED-FET MOSFET output-device technology. A low-noise preamplifier circuit and RCA signal connections support clean signal transfer from compatible source units. High-level inputs also allow integration with source units that do not provide RCA preamp outputs.

Built-in crossover controls allow the amplifier to be tuned for full-range speakers, high-pass applications, or low-pass applications. Separate crossover controls for channel pairs 1/2 and 3/4 make it possible to configure different speaker roles in the same installation. The selectable bass control provides an additional low-frequency adjustment option when system tuning calls for it.

The SA-1100.4 fits naturally into an entry-level or replacement amplifier upgrade path for vehicles needing more control than a head unit's internal amplifier can provide. It includes RCA input and output connections for signal routing to another amplifier, helping support expandable systems. Its combination of stereo, bridged, and mixed-mode operation gives installers multiple ways to allocate its four channels.

Design & Installation

The SA-1100.4 uses an aluminum QTD heat sink intended to disperse operating heat, along with nickel-plated brass connection terminals and screw-down connectors. Its Class AB circuit design uses a pulse-width-modulated power supply and SPEED-FET MOSFET output devices. LED diagnostic indicators are provided for overload and speaker-short protection monitoring.

Mount the amplifier securely in a ventilated location and do not install it upside down. It accepts low-level RCA input or high-level speaker input through the supplied harness, with RCA output available for another amplifier. Use the 4 AWG power and ground terminals, 12 AWG speaker terminals, a 30A fuse, and set the input level and crossover controls to suit the connected speakers and source unit.
