The Rockford Fosgate Punch PBR400X4D is a compact four-channel car audio amplifier for systems that need added speaker power where installation space is limited. It delivers full-range Class D amplification for front-and-rear speakers, component systems, or other four-channel applications. Its compact chassis is well suited to cars, trucks, motorcycles, ATVs, and similar vehicles where a conventional amplifier may be difficult to place.
At 4 ohms, the PBR400X4D provides 50 watts RMS to each of four channels, with up to 100 watts RMS per channel at 2 ohms. It can also be bridged to run two 4-ohm channels at 200 watts RMS each. This flexibility lets it support a straightforward four-speaker upgrade or a higher-output two-channel configuration when paired with compatible speakers.
The amplifier uses a full-range Class D design with Rockford Fosgate Boosted Rail Technology. This approach is designed to provide its rated output in a small enclosure while operating from a 9 to 16 VDC vehicle electrical system. The result is a practical option for compact systems that need efficient amplification without the larger footprint of many conventional multi-channel amplifiers.
Its differential signal inputs accept either low-level RCA signals or high-level speaker signals from a source unit. When high-level input is used, the amplifier supports automatic turn-on behavior, which can simplify integration with many factory radios. A 2-channel/4-channel input selector also allows four amplified outputs to be operated from only the front input pair when needed.
Selectable fixed crossovers help tailor the amplifier to the speakers and system layout. Each channel section can be set for low-pass, all-pass, 60 Hz high-pass, or 80 Hz high-pass operation. Front and rear gain controls, along with input and output clip indicators, provide useful setup references when matching the amplifier to the source unit and speakers.
Key Features
- Four-Channel Class D Power: Delivers 50 watts RMS to each channel at 4 ohms.
- 2-Ohm Stable Outputs: Provides up to 100 watts RMS per channel at 2 ohms.
- Bridgeable Channel Pairs: Runs as two 200-watt RMS channels at 4 ohms bridged.
- Compact Chassis: Measures approximately 6.8 by 4.3 by 1.5 inches.
- Flexible Signal Inputs: Accepts RCA or speaker-level source signals.
- Selectable Crossovers: Offers LP, all-pass, 60 Hz HP, and 80 Hz HP settings.
Design & Installation
The PBR400X4D uses a compact metal amplifier chassis with integrated connection harnesses rather than large conventional terminal blocks. Its design includes separate front and rear gain controls, clip-status indicators, crossover selectors, and power/protection indication. The small format helps accommodate installations with restricted mounting space while still providing four amplified channels.
For installation, connect compatible 2-ohm or 4-ohm speakers to the four outputs, or bridge channel pairs only with 4-ohm speaker loads. The amplifier accepts RCA-level input through its signal harnesses, while the same input arrangement can be adapted for high-level speaker input; high-level operation activates its auto turn-on feature. Use appropriately sized power wiring, install the specified external fuse near the battery, provide a clean chassis ground, and leave adequate ventilation around the amplifier.

Can this amplifier power four door speakers?
Yes. It has four full-range amplified channels and is rated at 50 watts RMS per channel into 4 ohms. It can provide 100 watts RMS per channel when each channel is connected to a compatible 2-ohm load.
Can I use it as a two-channel amplifier?
Yes. Channel pairs can be bridged to provide 200 watts RMS x2 into 4-ohm loads. Do not use bridged loads below 4 ohms.
Will it work with a factory radio?
It accepts high-level speaker input as well as low-level RCA input. When using high-level input, its auto turn-on feature is active, which can reduce the need for a separate remote turn-on connection.
What wiring is required?
A fused power connection, ground connection, speaker wiring, and either RCA or high-level input wiring are required. The amplifier's power and ground connector accepts up to 8 AWG wire, and its external battery fuse rating is 60A.
Are crossover controls included?
Yes. The amplifier has selectable fixed 12 dB/octave crossovers with low-pass, all-pass, 60 Hz high-pass, and 80 Hz high-pass settings. These settings can be used to protect smaller speakers or divide frequencies within a system.
What is included with the amplifier?
The package includes the amplifier and signal and speaker-output harnesses used for installation, along with setup documentation. A battery fuse and installation wiring are not supplied.
