JVC KS-DR2004D 4-Channel Compact Digital Amplifier

The JVC KS-DR2004D is a compact four-channel digital amplifier designed to add power to car, marine, UTV, and motorcycle audio systems. It provides 50 watts RMS to each of four channels at 4 ohms, making it suited to driving front and rear speakers from an aftermarket or factory audio source. Its compact sealed design helps make installation practical where conventional amplifiers may be difficult to place.

This amplifier is intended for systems exposed to water, dust, vibration, and changing outdoor conditions. It is rated IP66 and IP67 for water and dust protection, and its sealed cast-aluminum chassis uses stainless-steel screws. A drain-tunnel structure creates clearance beneath the amplifier to help reduce saltwater and sand buildup at the mounting surface.

For audio performance, the KS-DR2004D supports a 10 Hz to 35 kHz frequency response and adjustable high-pass and low-pass filters for each channel pair. The filters are variable from 50 Hz to 200 Hz with a 12 dB-per-octave slope, allowing the amplifier to be set up for full-range speakers or more focused frequency duties. Input sensitivity is adjustable across a 0.2V to 5.0V RCA range for integration with compatible source units.

The amplifier can be connected through RCA inputs or speaker-level input wiring for systems using a factory-installed head unit without RCA preouts. Its input-mode and output-mode controls support different system layouts, including four-channel operation and bridged two-channel operation. In bridged mode, it is rated to deliver 150 watts by two channels into 4-ohm loads.

JVC equips the KS-DR2004D with Polymer Multi-Layer Capacitors and magnetically shielded output coils to support controlled signal handling and reduce radiated noise. The amplifier also includes a protection function for conditions such as speaker-wire shorts, low speaker impedance, DC at the speaker output, and high internal temperature. It is a practical option for powering a compact multi-speaker system in vehicles and powersports applications that need a sealed amplifier chassis.

Design & Installation

The KS-DR2004D uses a sealed cast-aluminum chassis with stainless-steel screws, a die-cast mounting section, and a drain-tunnel structure beneath the amplifier. JVC specifies IP66 and IP67 water- and dust-protection ratings, ASTM B117 salt-spray corrosion testing, and a 3-axis multi-frequency vibration test. Its 198 x 48.5 x 104 mm enclosure is designed for compact mounting locations.

Installation requires a 12V negative-ground electrical system, battery and ground wiring, speaker wiring, and either RCA or speaker-level signal connections. The manual shows 10 AWG battery and ground wiring, a 16 AWG power-control wire for RCA-input installations, and a 40A fuse; use a protective fuse near the battery. Mount the amplifier securely in a location with ventilation, keep the dressing panel properly installed to maintain its protection rating, and have mounting and wiring performed by an experienced installer when needed.
