JVC KS-DR1004D 4-Channel Compact Class-D Amplifier

The JVC KS-DR1004D is a compact four-channel Class-D amplifier designed to add dedicated power to a car, motorcycle, boat, UTV, or other motorsports audio system. It provides four amplified channels for speakers or can be bridged into two higher-output channels. Its small chassis helps solve installation-space limitations common in compact vehicles and powersports applications.

At 14.4 volts, the KS-DR1004D delivers 45 watts RMS to each of four channels at 4 ohms across 20 Hz to 20 kHz. It can also be configured for 90 watts RMS x 2 in bridged operation with 4-ohm loads. This makes it suitable for powering full-range speakers in a four-channel setup or for a smaller two-channel-plus-subwoofer system.

The amplifier supports both RCA low-level inputs and speaker-level inputs, allowing it to work with aftermarket receivers as well as compatible factory-installed head units. Signal-sensing auto power control is available when using the speaker-level input. Independent A-channel and B-channel input, sensitivity, and filter controls support system-specific adjustment.

Variable high-pass and low-pass filters can be adjusted from 50 Hz to 200 Hz, helping direct appropriate frequencies to full-range speakers or a subwoofer. The selectable filtering can also be turned off for full-band operation. A 98 dB signal-to-noise ratio and separated preamplifier and power-amplifier circuit boards are engineered to help reduce unwanted radiation noise.

For outdoor-oriented applications, the main printed circuit boards use conformal coating for added protection from moisture, condensation, and airborne contaminants such as salt spray. A large low-pass-filter coil supports stable signal handling at higher listening levels. With its compact 145 x 45 x 99 mm footprint, the KS-DR1004D is a practical amplifier upgrade where mounting room is limited.

Design & Installation

The KS-DR1004D uses a compact chassis, conformal-coated main circuit boards, and separated preamplifier and power-amplifier circuit boards. Its control panel includes separate A-channel and B-channel filter-frequency, filter-mode, and input-sensitivity adjustments. A protective cover is supplied for the control panel after setup.

Install the amplifier securely in a dry location with adequate ventilation and clearance for heat dissipation; it should not be mounted under carpet or where it can interfere with driving or safety equipment. Use a 12-volt negative-ground electrical system, connect the ground lead to suitable chassis ground, and place a protective fuse near the battery. The amplifier supports RCA-input installations or speaker-level connections, with 2-ohm minimum stereo loads and 4-ohm minimum bridged loads.
