Hifonics BXX1600.4 4-Channel Car Audio Amplifier

The Hifonics BXX1600.4 is a four-channel car audio amplifier designed to add dedicated power to a vehicle speaker system. It can run four speakers in stereo or be configured for two bridged channels when a system calls for higher output per channel. This makes it a flexible choice for upgrading beyond the power available from a factory or aftermarket receiver.

At 4 ohms, the amplifier is rated for 200 watts RMS per channel across four channels. With compatible 2-ohm speakers, it is rated for 400 watts RMS per channel. For bridged applications, it is rated for 800 watts RMS per pair at 4 ohms.

The BXX1600.4 uses Hifonics Super A/B Class amplification and Ultra-Fi MOSFET output devices. Its PWM MOSFET power supply incorporates T3 twin-turbo toroids to support power delivery from the vehicle electrical system. Low-noise preamplifier circuitry is included to receive low-level RCA signals from a source unit.

Variable electronic crossover controls allow the amplifier to be tailored to the speakers or subwoofers connected to each channel pair. Bass EQ and a subsonic-filter function provide further setup adjustment. RCA inputs use nickel-plated jacks for corrosion resistance, while the amplifier also provides a pair of RCA outputs.

This amplifier suits systems using front and rear speakers, component speakers, or a mixed setup with bridged channels where appropriate. Its aluminum chassis is designed to help manage heat generated during operation. Proper speaker impedance, power wiring, grounding, fusing, and gain adjustment are important for a safe and reliable installation.

Design & Installation

The BXX1600.4 has a chrome-finished aluminum chassis with a classic Hifonics heat-sink design. It uses Ultra-Fi MOSFET output devices, a PWM MOSFET power supply, and high-temperature, impact-resistant nickel-plated connection hardware. Power and protection status indicators are fitted on the amplifier end panel.

Mount the amplifier on a secure, dry surface with ventilation around the chassis. Use RCA cables from a compatible source unit, 4 AWG power and ground wiring at the amplifier terminals, and speaker wire up to 12 AWG at the speaker terminals. The amplifier uses a 70A fuse, and bridged speaker loads should be 4 ohms; do not use loads below 2 ohms per stereo channel.
