BOSS RC-505MK2 Tabletop Loop Station

The BOSS RC-505MK2 is a tabletop loop station designed for building layered performances without relying on a traditional pedalboard looper. Its five stereo phrase tracks let performers capture vocals, instruments, beatboxing, and other sources in separate loops. Dedicated track controls and faders keep core looping functions close at hand during recording and playback.

This unit suits vocalists, beatboxers, multi-instrumentalists, producers, streamers, and solo performers who need flexible live-looping control from a desktop position. Two balanced XLR microphone inputs support condenser microphones with switchable phantom power, while two 1/4-inch instrument inputs accommodate additional sound sources. Multiple stereo outputs provide routing options for monitors, mixers, headphones, and other stage or studio equipment.

The RC-505MK2 records and plays stereo WAV audio at 44.1 kHz with 32-bit floating-point recording and playback. It provides approximately 1.5 hours of recording time for one track and approximately 13 hours across all memories. With 99 phrase memories, users can organize reusable loop setups, track settings, effects, and playback configurations.

Built-in rhythm support helps establish tempo and structure when creating loops. The unit includes more than 200 rhythm types and 16 rhythm kits, plus tap-tempo and rhythm start/stop controls. Input FX and Track FX sections provide separate processing options for live sources and recorded loops, helping performers shape sounds without adding external effects hardware.

The RC-505MK2 can serve as the central looping and routing hub in a performance or recording setup. USB supports data backup, phrase import and export through BOSS Tone Studio, and rhythm-pattern import with RC Rhythm Converter. MIDI input and output, external footswitch connections, and expression-pedal support allow the tabletop interface to expand into a more hands-free control system.

Design & Installation

The RC-505MK2 uses a low-profile tabletop layout with five long-throw track faders, dedicated track buttons, effect buttons, rotary controls, and a backlit graphic LCD. Its 420 mm-wide chassis is designed for desktop, tabletop, or keyboard-stand placement where the performer can access looping controls directly. The control layout separates track management, rhythm operation, effects, and output-level adjustment for practical performance use.

Connect microphones to the two XLR MIC inputs and instruments or line-level sources to the two 1/4-inch INST inputs. Connect the MAIN OUTPUT or assignable SUB outputs to a mixer, powered speakers, audio interface, or other destination, and use the stereo PHONES jack for monitoring. For expanded hands-free operation, add compatible optional BOSS footswitches or an expression pedal through the two CTL/EXP jacks; use USB and MIDI connections as needed for computer and external-device integration.
