The Jackson X Series Signature David Ellefson Concert Bass CBX IV is a 4-string electric bass designed for players seeking a full-scale instrument with focused low-end response and flexible onboard tone shaping. Its Concert Bass body is contoured for a comfortable playing position, whether used standing or seated. The Satin Black finish and black hardware give it a restrained, performance-ready appearance.

This model suits bassists playing modern rock, metal, and other styles that benefit from quick note definition and strong midrange presence. A pair of EMG HZ35 dual-coil humbucking pickups provides neck and bridge pickup voices with low-noise operation. The onboard active 3-band EQ lets players adjust bass, midrange, and treble directly from the instrument.

The 34-inch scale maple neck is built for familiar long-scale bass tension and is reinforced with graphite. Its 12–16 inch compound-radius laurel fingerboard becomes flatter toward the upper frets, supporting clean fretting across the 21-jumbo-fret layout. A 1.625-inch nut width provides standard four-string spacing at the lower positions.

Jackson equips the CBX IV with a HiMass bridge intended to provide a solid anchor point for the strings. The bass comes fitted with nickel-plated steel strings in .045–.105 gauges, a common four-string bass set range. Sealed die-cast Jackson tuning machines support routine tuning adjustments.

For a complete playing setup, pair this bass with a compatible bass amplifier, instrument cable, and any preferred effects or direct-input equipment. Its volume control, pickup blend control, and active EQ allow it to feed an amp, pedalboard, recording interface, or DI-equipped stage rig with adjustable tonal balance. The model is right-handed and configured as an HH pickup bass.

Key Features

  • David Ellefson Signature Model: A 4-string Concert Bass built to this signature model's specified configuration.
  • EMG HZ35 Pickup Set: Neck and bridge humbuckers provide selectable and blendable pickup voices.
  • Active 3-Band EQ: Separate bass, midrange, and treble controls support onboard tone adjustment.
  • Compound-Radius Fingerboard: The 12–16 inch laurel fingerboard flattens toward upper frets.
  • Jackson HiMass Bridge: A fixed 4-string bridge provides a stable string anchor point.
  • Graphite-Reinforced Maple Neck: Bolt-on neck construction adds graphite reinforcement and a scarf joint.

Design & Installation

The CBX IV uses a poplar Concert Bass body with a satin finish, paired with a maple neck and laurel fingerboard. Details include white neck and headstock binding, pearloid sharkfin position inlays, black hardware, dome-style control knobs, and a Jackson pointed 4-in-line headstock. It has no pickguard and uses standard strap buttons.

This is an electric instrument rather than a vehicle-audio component, so it does not mount in a dashboard or speaker enclosure. Connect its instrument output to a bass amplifier, pedal chain, DI box, or recording interface using an appropriate instrument cable, then use the volume, blend, and 3-band EQ controls to set the pickup balance and tone. Confirm your amplifier or interface accepts an electric bass instrument signal before use.
