The JS22 combines a satin-finished mahogany body with a satin maple neck, amaranth fingerboard, white neck and headstock binding, and black hardware. It has 22 jumbo frets, a black plastic nut, sealed die-cast Jackson tuning machines, black pickup covers, and dome-style control knobs. The guitar uses nickel-plated steel strings in .009-.042 gauges from the factory.

For use, connect the guitar to a compatible guitar amplifier with an appropriate instrument cable, then select pickups with the three-position toggle and set the volume and tone controls to taste. A qualified technician can perform setup adjustments for string action, neck relief, and intonation using the adjustable bridge and dual-action truss rod.
