The Jackson X Series Spectra Bass SBXP IV is a right-handed, four-string electric bass designed for players who need broad tone-shaping control in a modern offset-body instrument. Its 34-inch scale, 24-fret layout, and dual humbucking pickups support standard bass roles from practice and recording to rehearsals and live performance. The Desert Sand finish is paired with black hardware and a color-matched 2x2 Jackson headstock.

A poplar body with a poplar burl top provides the foundation for this Spectra-shaped bass. The enlarged upper horn is designed to distribute the instrument's weight for balanced playing comfort. Its through-body maple neck construction is reinforced with graphite and uses a scarf joint for added structural support.

The SBXP IV uses Jackson medium-output humbucking pickups at the neck and bridge for a punchy, articulate starting point. A blend control lets players balance the two pickups, while a two-way toggle switch provides pickup coil splitting. This layout gives players access to contrasting pickup voices without changing instruments.

Its onboard active 3-band EQ offers additional control over the bass's tonal balance when the active circuit is engaged. The volume control includes a push/pull selector for active or passive operation, allowing the active EQ circuit to be bypassed. This provides a passive operating option if battery power is unavailable.

The bound laurel fingerboard has a 12-inch to 16-inch compound radius and 24 jumbo frets for access across the full scale length. A Jackson HiMass bridge and sealed die-cast tuning machines complete the hardware package. It can serve as a versatile foundation for a bass rig when paired with an appropriate bass amplifier and instrument cable.

Key Features

  • Four-String, 34-Inch Scale: Provides a familiar long-scale bass playing format.
  • Poplar Burl-Topped Body: Combines a poplar body with a distinct burl top.
  • Neck-Through Maple Neck: Uses graphite reinforcement and a scarf joint.
  • Dual Humbucking Pickups: Delivers neck and bridge pickup blending options.
  • Active/Passive Electronics: Push/pull volume control bypasses the active EQ circuit.
  • Jackson HiMass Bridge: Supports sustained notes and defined note attack.

Design & Installation

The SBXP IV uses a satin-finished poplar body, poplar burl top, maple neck, bound laurel fingerboard, and black hardware. Its neck-through-body design has graphite reinforcement, while the fingerboard carries white dot position inlays and 24 jumbo frets. The instrument has no pickguard or neck plate.

For setup, tune the factory-fitted nickel-plated steel strings to the desired pitch using the sealed die-cast tuners and connect the bass to suitable amplification with a standard instrument cable. Use the volume, blend, EQ, and coil-split controls to establish the desired sound; pull the volume control to select passive operation when needed. A truss rod wrench is included for neck adjustment.
